Ephraim, Utah — A City with a History
Ephraim is a small town in the central part of the state of Utah, located in Sanpete County. It was founded in 1854 by Mormon pioneers seeking new lands for settlement. The town is named after the biblical Ephraim from the Old Testament — one of the sons of Joseph, whose descendants became one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Today, Ephraim is the largest city in Sanpete County with a population of 5,611 according to the 2020 census. It is a quiet college town home to Snow College — one of the oldest educational institutions in the state, founded in 1888 as the LDS Sanpete Stake Academy.
Geographic Location
Ephraim lies along US Route 89 — a scenic highway stretching over 502 miles (808 km) through central Utah. This route passes through settlements such as Panguitch, Richfield, Manti, Provo, and Salt Lake City.
The town is located approximately 10 miles south of Spring City and 7 miles north of Manti. This makes it a convenient stop for travelers exploring central Utah and its natural attractions.

How to Get to Ephraim
The main route to Ephraim is US Route 89. From Salt Lake City, head south through Provo and Manti. From Las Vegas, go north through Cedar City and Panguitch.
The nearest major airport is in Salt Lake City, approximately 200 km to the north. From there, you can reach the town by car in 2–2.5 hours along the scenic highway.
