Port of Cattolica — Gateway to the Adriatic Coast
Port of Cattolica is a modern marina on the Adriatic coast of Italy, located in the Emilia-Romagna region, province of Rimini. The town of Cattolica is known for its beaches, historic center, and picturesque waterfront, while the port serves as its maritime gateway. The live webcam allows you to see this location in real time — the marina with yachts, the promenade pier, and the endless waters of the Adriatic.
Cattolica attracts tourists not only with beach holidays but also with its rich history dating back to antiquity. The port area today is a harmonious combination of functional infrastructure for yachtsmen and a cozy resort space for strolling.
Port History: From Fishing Harbor to Modern Marina
The history of Cattolica as an independent municipality began relatively recently. On December 5, 1895, Cattolica gained municipal autonomy, previously being a village under the jurisdiction of the municipality of San Giovanni. Before that, the settlement remained predominantly a fishing village, and the fishing industry only began to develop in the second half of the 19th century.
The transformation from a modest harbor to a modern tourist port occurred gradually throughout the 20th century. Today, Cattolica's marina is a full-fledged infrastructure for yacht tourism with berths, service facilities, and convenient access to the historic city center.
How to Get to the Port of Cattolica
The Port of Cattolica is located in the central part of the city, making it easily accessible for tourists. From Rimini, you can reach it by bus route 11, which runs along the coast and stops in the center of Cattolica. The journey takes about 40–50 minutes depending on traffic.
By train from Rimini, you can get to the Cattolica-San Giovanni-Gabicce station, from which the port is about a 15-minute walk. For those traveling by car, there are parking areas near the port — both paid ones on the waterfront and free ones in neighboring blocks.
Port coordinates for your navigator: 43.9636° N, 12.7386° E. The marina is located in close proximity to the historic center, allowing you to combine yacht viewing with a walk around the city.
What to See Near the Port
Within walking distance of the marina are several iconic landmarks of Cattolica. The main symbol of the city is the Fountain of the Sirens (Fontana delle Sirene), created in 1928–1929 by sculptor Giuseppe Casalini. It is located in Piazza Primo Maggio in the city center.
The fountain composition includes three sirens around the central element and turtles along the outer perimeter, spouting water. The fountain is one of the main symbols of Cattolica and "comes alive" on summer evenings thanks to a light show.
Another important attraction is the theme park "Le Navi", the largest aquarium on the Adriatic coast. Its capacity is 2.5 million liters of seawater, and it is home to over 3,000 marine fauna representatives of 400 species, including sharks. The aquarium building was solemnly opened on June 28, 1934 in just 9 months of construction.
Port of Cattolica in Winter and Summer: Seasonal Differences
The appearance of the port changes significantly depending on the season. In summer, the marina is filled with yachts and boats — about 200 berths are occupied by vessels of various sizes. The waterfront is lively: cafes and restaurants are open, tourists stroll along the pier.
In winter, the port takes on a calmer character. The number of yachts in the marina decreases, and you can better examine the architecture of coastal buildings and the port infrastructure itself. Stormy sunsets over the Adriatic are especially spectacular at this time of year.
Night Lighting and Marina Lights
With the onset of darkness, the port of Cattolica transforms. Navigation lights on the pier light up red and green, showing the way to vessels. Lampposts along the promenade area create a cozy atmosphere, and the lights of yachts reflecting in the water add romance to the marina.
On summer evenings, the lighting turns on along the waterfront and around the Fountain of the Sirens, creating a spectacular light show. The night webcam allows you to see this atmosphere in real time — the shimmering of lights on the water and the silence of the sleeping port.
Weather and Navigation in the Port
The climate of Cattolica is typically Mediterranean with mild winters and warm summers. In summer, air temperatures reach +28–32°C, and the water in the Adriatic warms up to +24–26°C. In winter, temperatures rarely drop below +5°C, but rain and fog are possible.
For yachtsmen, it is important to consider wind direction: in summer, the prevailing sea breeze brings coolness, while in winter, northern winds can create waves in the port waters. Navigation lights on the pier help vessels safely enter the marina in any conditions.
