The modern appearance of the beach took shape after a major reorganization in 1994, when the shoreline was cleared and landscaped. Before that, Zurriola was more of an industrial zone, but today it is a full-fledged urban beach with infrastructure: showers, lifeguard towers, and wooden walkways for access. The sandy surface requires regular renewal due to severe storms, but the municipality keeps the beach in perfect condition.

How to get to the beach

Getting to Zurriola is easy: from the Old Town via the Zurriola Bridge (Puente de Zurriola) along the Urumea River promenade. By public transport — bus routes 26 and 31 to the "Zurriola" stop. For drivers, there are underground car parks in the Gros district and at Paseo Square. A cycle path along the promenade connects the beach with the city center and the Amara district.
