History of Latina
Latina is a relatively young city in Italy. It was officially founded on June 30, 1932 and was originally named Littoria. After the end of World War II, the city was renamed Latina. It was built on the site of the drained Pontine Marshes (Agro Pontino) approximately 64 kilometers southeast of Rome.
The historic center of Latina is an open-air museum of Italian rationalism from the 1930s. The master plan was designed by rationalist architects, and to this day the city center preserves Piazza del Popolo and Piazza della Liberta.
