History of the park's creation

Construction of the park began in 2017 and lasted four years. The official opening took place in early August 2021. The initiative to create it belongs to a private individual — the park was conceived as a shelter for animals in distress. Already in the fall of 2021, the first lion cubs were born here — this confirmed that the predators feel safe and comfortable. The first cub was named Knyaz (Prince).

Park inhabitants

On an area of more than 5 hectares, about 50 animals are kept. The core of the collection consists of African lions — inhabitants of spacious enclosures, living in prides. A special pride — white lions, a rare color variant with a cream coat caused by leucism. In addition to lions, the park is home to Amur tiger Pups and black leopard Yurchik — each with their own rescue story.

Mission and keeping conditions

The main mission of the park is rescuing animals seized from resort photographers and traveling circuses. Many lions ended up here after illegal exploitation — they were kept in cages for photo sessions with tourists. The park provides conditions as close to natural as possible: spacious enclosures, proper nutrition, veterinary care. The birth of lion cubs in 2021 confirmed that the animals don't just survive — they feel well enough to reproduce.

What visitors will see

The park is surrounded by a stone wall in medieval style — from it opens a panoramic view of the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. Observation decks are equipped for guests, from which predators can be observed up close. Excursions are conducted — guides tell the story of each animal, why it ended up in the park and how the rehabilitation went. On the territory there is a mini-cafe, toilet, children's attractions — everything for a comfortable family visit.

How to get there from New Athos

From New Athos to Pride Lion Park you can get by car or excursion transport — the distance is about 19 kilometers. The route runs along the Sukhumi Highway through Gudauta. Landmark — the turn to Aatsy village, then follow the signs. The road is paved, the last meters are gravel covering. Many tourists combine a visit to the park with an excursion to the New Athos Monastery and the New Athos Cave.
