Krasnoozyorky District: History and Character
The settlement of Krasnoozyorky is one of the earliest populated areas of Volzhsky. People lived here even before the city itself appeared. The settlement was officially founded in 1951, and received the status of a district in 1959. During the restoration and construction of the district, the principle of ensemble design was observed, thanks to which Krasnoozyorky stands out for its architectural harmony — its monuments are not inferior to the historical center of Volgograd.
Kalinina Street: From Krestovaya to the Present Day
The street where the webcam is installed is named after the Soviet state figure Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin. Previously it was called Krestovaya — this historical name is still remembered by longtime residents of the district. Today, Kalinina Street is one of the central thoroughfares of the district, where residential buildings, educational institutions, and public spaces coexist.
What is Located at Kalinina, 2
House No. 2 on Kalinina Street is a whole educational cluster. Here are located School No. 15 (Building No. 1), Children's Music School No. 2 with classes in accordion, bayan, guitar, and vocals, as well as educational centers "Klassiki" and "Peremena." Nearby is the English Gravity foreign language school. The entire infrastructure is oriented toward children and teenagers, which explains the abundance of sports and play areas around.
Sports and Children's Playground: The Heart of the Courtyard
The public space around the Kalinina, 2 building is a typical example of Soviet and post-Soviet courtyard planning, where sports and children's games coexist in one place. The outdoor sports ground with basketball hoops is fenced with a metal fence, and its surface is painted in red-burgundy and green tones. Nearby is a children's play area with colorful equipment: slides, pull-up bars, swings. Benches and streetlights are installed around — everything for residents to relax and watch their children.
Symbol of the District: The Blue Dome in the Background
To the right of the playground, part of a building with a blue dome is visible in the frame, resembling a church structure. This is a characteristic element of the architectural landscape of Krasnoozyorky. The district is rich not only in residential buildings but also in cultural heritage sites. In the mass grave of the district, Stepan Petrovich Lysenko and other fallen soldiers and officers of the Great Patriotic War — defenders of Stalingrad — are buried.
An Open-Air Architectural Reserve
Krasnoozyorky is often called an architectural reserve. The principle of uniformity in construction created a street ensemble that stands out against typical districts. Near Kalinina Street, two-story houses with arches leading to courtyards have been preserved — a characteristic feature of old Volzhsky buildings. House No. 1 on Kalinina Street is a panel building from 1992, series 1-468. The architectural monuments of the district are not inferior to the historical center of Volgograd.
Urban Legends of Volzhsky
Young Volzhsky has its own myths and mysteries. One of the most famous legends says that somewhere near Kalinina Street there is a secret underground passage leading to the city administration building. Of course, this is not documented, but the legend has lived for many years. In the Volgograd region, there is also a belief about the treasure of Stepan Razin and underground passages connected with the history of the region. Boris Shabrin even published a book "Volzhsky. A Mystical Guide," collecting urban legends and myths.
How to Get There and What to See Nearby
Krasnoozyorky is located in the southern part of Volzhsky, a few kilometers from the Volga River. Near Kalinina Street is Lyudnikov Island, a monument to the Battle of Stalingrad and the Great Patriotic War. The district is conveniently connected to the city center by bus routes. For tourists, Krasnoozyorky is interesting as an open-air museum: here you can see architectural solutions from the 1950s–1990s in their historical context.
