Hot Springs Homestead Resort — Online Webcam of Virginia Ski Resort
Historic Resort in the Virginia Mountains
In the southeastern United States, surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains, lies one of the country's oldest resorts — The Omni Homestead Resort. This place has been welcoming guests for over 250 years, and during that time this corner of Virginia has served as a retreat for American presidents, nobility, and travelers from around the world. The webcam installed on the resort grounds allows you to see the ski area of Homestead — the slopes, lifts, and picturesque hillsides descending into the deciduous forest.
The resort was founded in 1766, and since then it has evolved from a modest settlement near hot springs into a full-fledged year-round resort with its own ski slopes, spa center, and golf course. Today, The Omni Homestead Resort occupies approximately 3,000 acres in the heart of the Allegheny Range.
Ski Season on the Slopes of Homestead
In winter, Hot Springs becomes a magnet for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The resort offers slopes of varying difficulty — from gentle runs for beginners to steep descents for experienced riders. The average natural snowfall here is about 50 inches (approximately 127 cm) per season, and the snowmaking system allows for extended skiing even during low-snow periods.
The chairlift visible in the broadcast takes guests to the upper part of the slope, offering panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Snow groomers operate on the slopes, so even with heavy traffic the surface remains smooth and safe.
Terrace with a View of the Slopes
The webcam is mounted on a wooden terrace at the base of the resort's ski area. This is a convenient vantage point from which you can simultaneously see the start of the runs, the chairlift, and the surrounding forest. In the foreground is a wooden platform with white railings, picnic tables with benches, and garden chairs where guests can relax after skiing.
To the right of the main platform is a small red building — a resort infrastructure facility, next to which you can spot parked cars. To the left runs a wooden walkway along the slope, used by pedestrians and service staff.
Nature of the Allegheny Mountains
The slopes of Homestead are surrounded by dense deciduous forest that turns brilliant shades of yellow to crimson in autumn. In the upper part of the slope, you can often observe mist or fog rising from the valley. This is a characteristic feature of the Allegheny Range — moist air from higher elevations settles in the lowlands, creating a light haze effect above the treetops.
The resort is located in Hot Springs, Virginia — not to be confused with the similarly named city in Arkansas, known for its national park. Although both places are associated with hot springs, Homestead Resort is specifically a ski resort in the Virginia mountains, operating year-round.
Resort Infrastructure
The Omni Homestead Resort is not just about skiing. The property features a spa center with thermal waters, a golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools, and restaurants. But in winter, the main attraction is the slopes — the camera shows the chairlift continuously operating, bringing skiers to the top.
Several structures and facilities are also visible on the slope — these could be snow storage areas, snowmaking equipment, or service buildings. The red building on the right is most likely an equipment kiosk or rental shop.
What the Camera Shows
The online camera broadcasts a view from the wooden terrace onto the ski slope of Homestead Resort. In the foreground is a wooden platform with white railings, picnic tables with benches, and garden chairs. In the center of the frame is a green slope with ski runs showing groomer tracks. A chairlift with support poles and cables runs along the slope. To the right is a small red building and parked cars. To the left is a wooden walkway along the slope. Dense deciduous forest surrounds the slope, and mist or fog is visible in the upper part. The camera operates in real time, allowing you to assess current conditions on the slopes — weather, cloud cover, and snow presence.
