Resort Location and Elevation
Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains in the western part of Nevada, USA. The resort's base elevation is 8,260 feet (2,520 meters) — the highest base elevation of any ski resort in the Lake Tahoe region. It is here, at this altitude, that the camera is installed, broadcasting a live stream in real time. The resort is located on SR 431 highway between the city of Reno and Incline Village on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, approximately 25 minutes' drive from downtown Reno.
Mountain Slopes and Infrastructure
The resort covers 1,200 acres (4.9 km²) of mountain slopes, including the legendary steep runs The Chutes and the scenic Winter Creek area. In the 2022–23 season, the resort underwent the largest modernization in its history — the old Lakeview triple chairlift was replaced with a modern high-speed detachable Lakeview Express chairlift costing $7.5 million. From the base elevation of 8,260 feet and the summit of Mount Rose (~9,700–10,000 feet), there is a panoramic view of the city of Reno, Incline Village, and Lake Tahoe. The Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe camera is directed toward the wide valley where the city of Reno stretches out, surrounded by mountain ranges on the horizon. In clear weather, the outlines of the Lake Tahoe basin and the opposite slopes of the Sierra Nevada are visible from this altitude.
Weather and Seasonality
Weather conditions at the summit of Mt. Rose are characterized by extreme conditions due to the high absolute elevation. The summit is at ~9,700–10,000 feet (2,960–3,050 m), where strong winds are frequently recorded. In winter, temperatures can drop well below zero, and the snow cover at this altitude persists longer than at neighboring resorts. In summer, the camera shows rocky terrain with sparse coniferous trees and alpine tundra — a completely different landscape compared to the winter season.
How to Get to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe
The resort can be reached via SR 431 (Mount Rose Highway), which connects Reno with the northern part of Lake Tahoe. From downtown Reno, the drive takes about 25 minutes. From Incline Village or Carson City, there are also road access routes. The resort operates during the winter season from November to April, but the Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe webcam broadcasts around the clock throughout the year, allowing you to observe the changing seasons on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada.
