Key West Harbor: Historic Port of the Florida Keys
Key West Harbor, known as Key West Bight or Key West Historic Seaport, is not just a picturesque marina with docked yachts. It is a historic port with 200 years of maritime trade history, dating back to the early 1700s. In the 1820s, the bight became the epicenter of fishing, sponge gathering, and turtle hunting — these industries remained the mainstays for 150 years. In the 1990s, the city purchased the bight area to preserve its historic working waterfront.
Today, the harbor represents a unique combination of historic heritage and modern resort infrastructure. The Key West Bight marina is located at 201 William St, Key West, in the heart of the historic Seaport district. It is within walking distance of Duval Street (0.7 km) and Mallory Square (0.6 km).
The Marker Hotel: Boutique Waterfront Resort
The Marker Key West Harbor Resort opened in December 2014 and became the first new hotel in Old Town in over 20 years. The resort was named after the famous Mile Marker 0 — the zero mile of US-1 highway in Key West.
The Marker is a boutique hotel spanning 2 acres (about 8,000 m²) with tropical gardens and harbor views. It is located right at the historic Schooner Wharf — a landmark with schooners and sailing vessels. The resort is steps away from the best restaurants, attractions, and entertainment in Key West, including Harbor Walk of Lights.
Key West Bight Marina: Infrastructure and Vessels
The Key West Bight marina has 33 transient slips capable of accommodating yachts up to 140 feet (about 43 meters) in length. The marina is located on the northwest side of Key West island, on a bend in the shoreline (bight), where Schooner Wharf Bar and historic packing houses are situated.
The harbor is on the northwest side of Key West island, on a bend in the shoreline, which provides natural protection from waves and wind. This makes it a popular mooring spot for both small sailing yachts and large motor vessels.
Geographic Location and Climate
Key West is the southernmost city in the continental United States, located on the island of the same name in the Florida Keys archipelago. The harbor faces the Gulf of Mexico, providing warm water year-round and picturesque sunsets. Key West's tropical climate is characterized by an average annual temperature of about 25°C, making it attractive for tourism at any time of year.
Thanks to its location on the northwest side of the island, the harbor offers views of the sunset over the water. It is one of the most photographed spots in the city, especially in the evening when the sun sets over the horizon of the Gulf of Mexico.
What to See Around the Harbor
Many Key West attractions are concentrated near the harbor. Schooner Wharf Bar is a historic bar located right on the wharf, known for its seafaring port atmosphere and live music. Harbor Walk of Lights is a waterfront promenade with artistic lighting, a popular spot for evening strolls.
Within walking distance of the marina are the city's main tourist arteries: Duval Street with its bars, restaurants, and shops, as well as Mallory Square — a traditional sunset gathering place where street performers and tourists gather every evening.
Key West Webcam: Live Stream from the Harbor
The online camera is installed overlooking Key West Harbor at The Marker Hotel and broadcasts live in real time. This allows you to watch the marina's activity, monitor weather conditions, and enjoy views of the tropical port from anywhere in the world.
The camera operates 24/7, so you can see the harbor at different times of day: during the day with bright sun and blue water, in the evening with sunset lighting, and at night with pier lights and yacht illumination.
What's Visible on Camera
The webcam broadcast opens with a panoramic view of the Key West Bight marina. In the foreground are docked yachts and sailing vessels with tall masts, and motorboats of various sizes. The harbor water is calm, reflecting the sky and surrounding buildings. In the background, you can see the open sea with distant vessels, pier infrastructure, the waterfront, and port facilities.
In the foreground of the frame are palm trees characteristic of tropical Key West, creating a resort atmosphere. On the starboard side, you can observe people on a vessel's deck, adding a lively, dynamic quality to the broadcast. The cloudy sky changes depending on weather conditions, creating a unique picture of the harbor each time.
