Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard in New Belgrade — Online Webcam
Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard — an artery of New Belgrade
Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard is one of the central streets of New Belgrade — the business district of the city. This is a modern neighborhood built in the mid-20th century on the left bank of the Sava River, and the boulevard runs through its heart, connecting key quarters and transport interchanges. If you want to see how the business center of the Serbian capital lives, this online webcam gives you that opportunity right now — from a high vantage point, a panorama of the boulevard opens up with its traffic, green alleys, and urban development.
Who was Mihajlo Pupin and why the boulevard bears his name
Until 1997, the boulevard was named after V.I. Lenin, and then it was renamed in honor of an outstanding scientist. Mihajlo Pupin (1854–1935) was a Serbian and American physicist and physical chemist, one of the founders of NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), which later evolved into NASA. He was born in the village of Idvor into a peasant family, emigrated to the United States, and made an enormous contribution to the development of telegraphy, radiophysics, and radio engineering. Pupin became one of the founders of electrical circuit theory and principles of electrical signal transmission — his inventions made it possible to increase the range of telephone communication and influenced the development of the entire global communications industry.
Park of Friendship — the green heart of the boulevard
A significant portion of Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard runs along the large landscaped area of Park of Friendship, which occupies 14 hectares and is recognized as a memorial site of Belgrade. The idea of creating a memorial park came from the environmental organization Young Gorani — it was laid out for the 1st Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Belgrade in 1961. The park is bounded by Mihajlo Pupin and Nikola Tesla boulevards, and also borders the Veliko Ratno and Malo Ratno islands. From the boulevard, there is a view of its alleys, trees, and spacious lawns — one of the greenest places in New Belgrade.
The "Chinese Wall" and other nearby landmarks
Near the boulevard is the famous "Chinese Wall" — one of the longest residential buildings in Belgrade, located in Block 21 of New Belgrade. Its construction began in 1963, and the building spans four streets at once: Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, Milentije Popovića, and the boulevards of Zoran Đinđić and Nikola Tesla. It is a striking example of socialist modernist architecture — the monumental building stretches for several city blocks and is easily recognizable.
On the boulevard itself is located the building of the Historical Archive of Belgrade (Palmira Toljatića Street 1) — here are stored building plans, documents, and maps telling the history of the Serbian capital. For researchers and history enthusiasts, this is a true treasure trove.
How to get to Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard
The boulevard is located in New Belgrade, and you can reach it by ground public transport — buses, trams, and trolleybuses. The main stops: "GO Novi Beograd · 370" and "Bulevar Mihajla Pupina". It is worth noting that there is no metro in Belgrade yet — its construction is underway, and the launch is expected no earlier than 2030, so the entire public transport system relies on surface routes. If you are planning a trip to Belgrade, tram tracks and bus lines are your main way to get around the city.
Seasonal changes: the boulevard in winter and summer
Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard looks different depending on the season. In summer, the alleys are immersed in greenery, trees form a dense canopy, and the Park of Friendship delights the eye with vivid colors. In winter, when snow falls, the boulevard takes on a completely different character — snow-covered crowns, light alleys, and the contrast of dark asphalt with the white blanket. On rainy days, wet asphalt reflects city lights, creating the atmosphere of a typical European city. The online camera allows you to observe these seasonal metamorphoses in real time, without leaving your home.
Urban life on Pupin Boulevard
Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard is not just a transport artery, but a full-fledged urban space. Along the street are office buildings, residential complexes, shops, and cafés. Pedestrian zones with rows of trees create shaded alleys where local residents take walks. Road traffic on the boulevard is quite active — it is one of the highways connecting New Belgrade with the city center and other districts. By watching the boulevard through the webcam, you can assess the rhythm of life in the Serbian capital: traffic density, congestion of pedestrian crossings, and the overall atmosphere of the business district.
