Porto-Vecchio: Port Panorama – Watch Online Live Stream
Porto-Vecchio webcam: panorama of a Mediterranean port
The live broadcast from Porto-Vecchio reveals one of the most picturesque harbors in southern Corsica. The online webcam is positioned on an elevated point and covers the entire port area — from the historic citadel to the marina filled with sailing yachts. This is more than just a real-time stream; it's a window into the atmosphere of a Mediterranean resort, where Genoese architecture meets modern yachting infrastructure.
The camera operates 24/7, allowing you to observe port life at any time of day. In the morning, you can see the first boats leaving the harbor; during the day — activity on the piers and tourists moving around the viewpoint; in the evening — sunset over the bay and the illumination of historic walls.
History of the citadel and Genoese towers
Porto-Vecchio was founded in 1539 by the Genoese, who built a powerful citadel here to defend the coast. The current walls of the fortification date back to 1589 — one of the best-preserved examples of Genoese defensive architecture in Corsica.
The citadel consists of five bastions and Genoese gates, visible in the foreground of the broadcast. The stone tower on the viewpoint is part of this defensive system. In the list of coastal towers compiled by Genoese authorities in 1617, 86 towers are listed in Corsica, and the Porto-Vecchio tower is one of the best preserved.
Writer James Boswell called Porto-Vecchio "one of the most remarkable harbors in Europe" in his travel diary. Today, the webcam allows you to assess this claim live.
What's in the frame: marina, yachts, and viewpoint
The central focus of the broadcast is the Porto-Vecchio marina, located at the foot of the citadel. The port sits on a hill above the bay, 25 kilometers north of Bonifacio. In the foreground is a viewpoint with a metal railing and a round stone tower, where visitors often appear, admiring the panorama.
Below, the marina is visible with numerous sailing yachts and boats moored to long piers. Construction cranes are noticeable in the port area — the port continues to develop. Beyond the port stretches the sea area, surrounded by hilly terrain with typical Corsican rocky landscape and Mediterranean vegetation. In the distance, mountains and coastal settlements are visible, and on the shore there's a sandy area.
Climate and weather in southern Corsica
Porto-Vecchio lies in a Mediterranean climate zone with hot summers — according to the Köppen classification, this is type Csa. The average annual temperature here is 17.5°C, making the resort comfortable to visit for most of the year.
Annual precipitation averages 599.4 mm, with November being the wettest month. Summer weather is predominantly sunny, ideal for observing the port via the online webcam. Even on cloudy days, the panorama of the bay and citadel looks atmospheric.
How to get to Porto-Vecchio
The nearest airport is Figari – Sud Corse (FSC), about a 25–30 minute drive away. An alternative is a ferry from Marseille, with tickets starting from €18 (La Méridionale company).
Previously, a narrow-gauge railway ran from Bastia to Porto-Vecchio, but this branch is now closed. Public transport is limited — buses connect the town with some beaches and neighboring settlements. A seasonal bus from Ajaccio airport takes 2 h 40 min – 3 h, costing €20–29.
Yachting and tourism in the bay
The Porto-Vecchio marina is a popular stop for yachts cruising along the Mediterranean coast. The port offers 380 berths for yachts on the water, of which 150 are for transit vessels. The maximum allowable yacht length is 50 meters.
The depth at the marina entrance is 4.5 meters, inside — from 1 to 4 meters depending on the berth. This allows both small sailing yachts and large motor cruisers to enter. The webcam provides an opportunity to assess marina occupancy before entering the port.
