Rosario — the cradle of the Argentine flag

The city where the sky-blue flag with the Sun of Mayo was first raised deserves special attention. February 27, 1812 on the banks of the Paraná, General Manuel Belgrano unfurled the banner that became the symbol of Argentina's independence. Today, the National Flag Monument stands on this site — a grand memorial opened June 20, 1957 on the anniversary of the flag creator's death. The monument's tower rises 70 meters into the Rosario sky, and at its foot lies Plaza 25 de Mayo — the heart of the city.

Rosario ranks third in population in the country: the metropolitan area is home to about 1.5 million people. It is the largest city in the province of Santa Fe, an important industrial and cultural center, often called the "Argentine Chicago" for its waterfront skyscrapers and dynamic pace of life.

The Paraná River and the Rosario-Victoria Bridge

The Paraná is the second longest river in South America, and in the Rosario area it spreads several kilometers wide. The Paraná waterfront is the city's calling card: Belgrano Avenue and Independence Park descend to the water, opening views of the islands and green banks of Entre Ríos province. This is where you can watch cargo ships heading to the ports of Rosario — the country's main export gateway.

Connecting the two banks is the grand Rosario-Victoria Bridge — a viaduct stretching 59.4 kilometers, opened in 2003. It is one of the longest bridges in Latin America, linking the provinces of Santa Fe and Entre Ríos. On clear days, its cables can be seen from the Rosario waterfront, stretching to the horizon.

Homeland of Messi and Che Guevara

Rosario gave the world two celebrities whose names are known in every corner of the planet. Ernesto Che Guevara was born here in 1928, although he spent his childhood mainly in Córdoba. Nevertheless, his countrymen consider the comandante their own: Rosario Central fans still paint his portraits on the stands and walls of the city.

And Lionel Messi was born in 1987 into a family of a steel mill worker. The future world football star took his first steps on the field of the Grandoli club in a Rosario suburb, and at age 13 moved to Barcelona. Today, in his hometown, Messi is an honorary citizen, and his graffiti adorns the walls of all Rosario.

Architecture and landmarks

The center of Rosario is densely and diversely built: colonial mansions neighbor modernist towers from the 1960s. Pellegrini Avenue is the main commercial artery, always crowded. The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dominates Plaza 25 de Mayo, and nearby rises the post office building in Beaux-Arts style.

Independence Park is the green lungs of the city, home to a racetrack, museums, and stadiums. This is where the home arenas of the two main football clubs are located: the Gigante de Arroyito of Rosario Central and the Coloso del Parque of Newell's Old Boys. Football culture here is a religion, and the Rosario Central vs. Newell's derby is considered one of the most passionate in the world.

Climate and nature

Rosario lies in a subtropical climate zone with mild winters and hot, humid summers. The Paraná River moderates the temperature, but humidity is constantly felt. In winter, the temperature rarely drops below 10 degrees, and in summer the thermometer climbs above 35. Precipitation is evenly distributed, but spring can bring thunderstorms and strong winds.

The islands in the Paraná delta are a separate world with a unique ecosystem. Herons nest here, capybaras roam, and willows and eucalyptus grow along the banks. Local residents take boats and kayaks to the islands, and from the city waterfront you can observe the life of this aquatic realm.

What cameras show the city

You can watch Rosario in real time through street webcams installed on the Paraná waterfront. The broadcasts show the river waters, ship traffic, and the city panorama. Rosario Airport cameras allow you to monitor air traffic and weather conditions on the runway.

For a virtual introduction to the main landmark, a 360° virtual tour of the National Flag Monument is available — it is not a live broadcast, but allows you to examine the memorial in detail. Plaza 25 de Mayo, Pellegrini Avenue, and the Gigante de Arroyito and Coloso del Parque stadiums do not have permanent public webcams with live streaming — only recordings of events and tourist videos are available.

Rosario webcams are an opportunity to see Argentina's third city without a flight: skyscrapers against the backdrop of the Paraná, the Flag Monument reaching into the sky, and endless traffic on the Rosario-Victoria Bridge. The city where Che Guevara and Messi were born lives by football, the river, and the southern sun.
