Ljubljana — the green capital of Slovenia

Ljubljana is a compact and cosy capital of Slovenia, located in the very heart of the country. The city with a population of about 298,230 people (mid-2024 data) combines medieval charm with a modern European atmosphere. In 2016, Ljubljana was awarded the prestigious title of European Green Capital, highlighting its commitment to sustainable development and ecology.

The historic centre of the city stretches along both banks of the Ljubljanica River, crowned by the famous Ljubljana Castle. The streets are adorned with Art Nouveau architecture, green parks occupy a significant part of the area, and the atmosphere invites leisurely strolls. Ljubljana webcams allow you to see this harmonious city in real time, to appreciate its rhythm and mood.

Prešernov trg Square and the historic centre

Prešernov trg Square is the heart of Ljubljana and the main tourist attraction. It is named after France Prešeren, the greatest Slovenian poet, whose monument stands in the centre of the square. The Franciscan Church of the Annunciation with its characteristic pink facade is also located here, having become one of the city's symbols.

Narrow streets of the Old Town radiate from Prešernov trg Square, where you can find cosy cafés, antique shops, and galleries. The Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) is a unique architectural structure connecting the square with the opposite bank. A webcam operates here, broadcasting the bustling centre of Ljubljana online.

Ljubljana Castle — the guardian of the city

At the top of Castle Hill, at an altitude of 376 metres above sea level, rises Ljubljana Castle — the most recognisable symbol of the city. The first fortifications on this site appeared back in the Celtic era, and in the Middle Ages the castle became the most important defensive structure. Today it is a cultural centre hosting exhibitions, concerts, and weddings.

The castle's lookout tower offers a panoramic view of the entire city and the Alps on the horizon. Webcams installed on the approaches to the castle allow you to appreciate the scale of this fortress and its strategic position. The history of Ljubljana Castle spans more than 800 years — since 1144 it has been mentioned in chronicles as the residence of local rulers.

Dragon Bridge — a masterpiece of Viennese Art Nouveau

Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most) is one of the most photographed landmarks in Ljubljana. Built in 1900–1901, it became one of the first reinforced concrete bridges in Europe and a striking example of the Viennese Art Nouveau style. Four imposing dragon statues guard the bridge at its corners, giving rise to numerous legends.

According to one of them, when a virgin crosses the bridge, the dragons begin to wag their tails. Another legend connects the mythical creatures with Jason, who allegedly founded Ljubljana after defeating a dragon together with the Argonauts. The webcam on Dragon Bridge shows not only the structure itself but also the Ljubljanica River with its picturesque embankments.

Tivoli Park — the green lungs of the capital

Tivoli Park is the largest city park in Slovenia, covering 500 hectares. It was founded in 1813, when Ljubljana was part of the French Illyrian Provinces. French engineer Jean Blanchar combined the estates of two manors, creating a landscape park in the English style.

Today Tivoli is a place of rest for locals and tourists. There are alleys for walking and jogging, fountains, sculptures, and greenhouses. Tivoli Mansion, located in the park, has been transformed into a modern congress centre. Webcams in Tivoli Park show the green expanses and visitors enjoying nature in the very centre of Ljubljana.

St. Nicholas's Cathedral — the spiritual centre

St. Nicholas's Cathedral is the main church of Ljubljana and one of the most outstanding monuments of Baroque architecture in Slovenia. The current building was erected between 1701 and 1706 to a design by the Italian Jesuit architect Andrea Pozzo. The green dome and twin bell towers make the cathedral recognisable from afar.

The interior of the cathedral is decorated with frescoes, and the bronze doors, created in 1996 for the 1250th anniversary of Christianity in Slovenia, tell the history of the country. The cathedral is located on Prešernov trg Square, and webcams in the centre of Ljubljana often capture its silhouette against the backdrop of the cityscape.

Ljubljana Airport — the air gateway to Slovenia

Jože Pučnik International Airport is the largest airport in Slovenia, serving the capital. It is located near the settlement of Brnik, 24 kilometres northwest of Ljubljana. The airport receives flights from most European capitals and serves as an important transport hub of the region.

The webcam at Ljubljana Airport allows you to observe the runway and aircraft movements. This is especially useful for travellers who want to assess weather conditions before departure, or for aviation enthusiasts monitoring the operations of Slovenia's air gateway.
