Family Resort in the Foothills of the Wiener Alpen
Wexl Arena is a compact family ski resort located in the Austrian municipality of Sankt Corona am Wechsel. It is perfect for those just learning to ski or snowboard, as well as for families with children. The resort is situated in the Unternberg area of the federal state of Lower Austria, in the Wiener Alpen mountain range. It is about an hour's drive from Vienna, making the resort popular for day trips from the capital.
Elevations and Terrain
The slopes of Wexl Arena are located at elevations ranging from 850 to 1570 meters above sea level. The vertical drop is approximately 720 meters, providing quite varied terrain for a resort of this scale. The Wexl Base lower station is located at the foot of the slopes — this is where the ascent up the mountain begins. The total area of the family ski zone is 75,000 m², making it compact yet very convenient for beginners.
Lower Station Infrastructure
The Wexl Base lower station is the central hub of the resort, where all the main infrastructure is concentrated. Here you will find ticket counters, an equipment rental shop, a ski school, and a service center. For the youngest guests, two magic carpets are provided, which safely transport children up the gentle slope. The resort also operates a button lift and a T-bar. Next to the station is a sledding area — anyone with a valid ski pass can rent sleds for free.
Ski Runs and Riding Opportunities
Wexl Arena is positioned as a family resort, so the majority of runs here are of easy and moderate difficulty. Wide, gentle slopes near the lower station are ideal for beginners to practice basic techniques. More confident skiers can head higher and try intermediate-level runs. Special attention deserves the "Schwarzkogel" run — one of the most scenic on the resort. The Wexl Arena ski school offers individual and group lessons for children and adults, as well as programs for kindergartens and school groups.
Accessibility and Location
Sankt Corona am Wechsel is located approximately 60 minutes by car from Vienna, making Wexl Arena one of the most accessible ski resorts for residents of the Austrian capital. You can reach it by car via the S6 motorway, or by public transport — by train to Sankt Corona am Wechsel station, from where buses run to the resort. Parking is available at the lower station for guests with their own vehicles.
Seasonality and Weather Conditions
Thanks to elevations up to 1570 meters, Wexl Arena typically receives enough snow for a stable season from December through March. However, like many resorts in Lower Austria, it may use snow cannons to ensure guaranteed snow cover on the lower runs. In summer, the resort transforms: instead of skiing, guests can hike mountain trails, ride bicycles, or simply enjoy the alpine meadows. The Wexl Base lower station becomes a starting point for hiking routes during the warmer months.
What You Can See on the Camera
The online camera is installed at the Wexl Base lower station and broadcasts a panoramic view of the ski resort infrastructure. In the frame is a long white run with distinctive turns, which is used for both bobsledding and skiing. The cable car and lift supports with cabins are clearly visible. In the foreground are green meadows and agricultural fields, as well as a small alpine village with traditional houses and red roofs. On the horizon rise wooded hills and mountains covered with coniferous and deciduous forests. Paved roads with cars, rest areas with playgrounds, and sports facilities complete the picture of this picturesque Austrian resort.
