On the shores of Lake Lampėdžiai, in the western part of Kaunas, lies Lithuania's first wake park — a place where water sports meet Baltic relaxation. The live webcam broadcasts the action on the wooden terrace and surrounding waters in real time: you can watch visitors mastering wakeboarding while locals stroll leisurely along the shore.
Lampėdžiai Wake Park — water sports on a lake in Kaunas
Lake Lampėdžiai, or Lampėdžio ežeras, has an unusual origin — it formed on the site of a gravel quarry dug in the Nemunas Valley between Lampėdžiai and Žemieji Kaniukai. Today it is a popular recreational area in the western part of Kaunas, on the right bank of the Nemunas River, west of the historic Vilijampolė district. The wake park occupies the territory of a former campsite, transforming an industrial reservoir into a hub for active recreation.
Kaunas, the second-largest city in Lithuania, is famous not only for the medieval architecture of its Old Town but also for its abundance of green waterfront areas. Lake Lampėdžiai is one of those places where locals and tourists spend their free time. The sandy shore, equipped waterfront, and well-developed infrastructure make it attractive for family recreation and water sports.
History of Lithuania's first wake park
The Wake Up Kaunas wake park opened in May 2017 and became the first facility of its kind not only in Kaunas but also one of the pioneers of wakeboarding in Lithuania. The idea to create a dedicated water sports zone on Lake Lampėdžiai arose from the growing interest in wakeboarding in the region and the lack of suitable venues.
The park covers 1,400 square meters of lakeside territory and can accommodate up to 75 visitors at a time. It is a compact yet functional space where every detail has been carefully considered — from changing rooms to relaxation areas.
Wakeboarding equipment and obstacles
The heart of the park is the WAKE LINE 3 system, consisting of two 12-meter side towers. The track length is 287 meters — one of the longest in Europe for this type of structure. This allows boats to reach sufficient speed and athletes to perform tricks over extended distances.
For freestyle enthusiasts, various obstacles are installed: S-sized Kicker, two M-sized Kickers, a 15-meter Ollie-box, and a Pipe. This range allows wakeboarders of different skill levels to ride — from beginners to advanced. The area also features a wooden terrace with sun loungers and hammocks, where you can relax after riding or simply watch the action on the water.
Riding in the park is available on a wakeboard, water skis, or wakeskate. The minimum age for independent riding is from 6 years old; children under 11 are allowed only under adult supervision.
Getting to Lampėdžiai from central Kaunas
Lake Lampėdžiai is located in the western part of Kaunas, on the right bank of the Nemunas. You can reach it from the historic city center in just a few minutes' drive — the route goes through central streets toward the Vilijampolė district. The exact address of the park is: Lampėdžių gatvė 10, Kaunas 48005.
For those traveling by car, there is a parking lot near the park. Kaunas public transport also serves this area, making the lake accessible to tourists without a personal vehicle. The proximity to the city center is one of the location's main advantages: after an active day on the water, you can quickly return to the Old Town for coffee or a stroll.
Seasonal features: what changes at the lake
Lampėdžiai Wake Park operates during the warm season, when water and air temperatures allow for comfortable water sports. In summer, the lake fills with visitors: the beach area is in full swing, the terraces are occupied by sunbathers, and boats with wakeboarders can constantly be seen on the water.
During the off-season and winter, the park is closed for riding, but the lake does not lose its appeal. The shoreline remains a place for walks, and the coastal infrastructure — benches, paths, green areas — is available to visitors year-round. During this time, the location takes on a calm, contemplative character.
Beach, library, and recreation areas
Lampėdžiai Beach is one of the favorite swimming spots in Kaunas. Here, people not only sunbathe and swim but also read: for the fifth consecutive year, a beach library has been operating — a special reading lawn by the water. This is a unique initiative in Lithuania, turning outdoor recreation into a cultural experience.
The beach infrastructure includes changing rooms, toilets, equipment rental, and a café. A wide wooden deck with pergolas creates shaded relaxation areas, and the sandy coastline is suitable for families with children. In the evening, sunset enthusiasts gather here — Lake Lampėdžiai is famous for its scenic views on the western shore of Kaunas.
What the camera shows
The camera is positioned to cover the key areas of the wake park. In the foreground are green shrubs and trees, partially framing the shot. At the center of attention is a single-story pavilion building with a dark roof and gray walls, with information boards on its facade. In front of it stretches a wide wooden deck with pergolas covered by white roofs — this is the park's main recreation area.
In the upper left part of the frame, the sandy shore is visible with benches and people walking. In the background, the water surface of Lake Lampėdžiai opens up, where during the warm season you can watch wakeboarding and water skiing. The camera broadcasts 24/7, allowing you to monitor the lake scene at any time of day — from morning tranquility to evening sunsets over Kaunas.
