San Nicolò Beach in Buggerru — live webcam streaming
Buggerru — a former mining village on the Costa Verde
Buggerru is located on the southwest coast of Sardinia, in the province of South Sardinia, about 85 kilometers northwest of Cagliari. The village was founded in 1864 as a lead and zinc mining center, and today around 1,000 people live here — five times fewer than a century ago. The old mines, including the famous Henry Gallery, now attract tourists, and the main attraction has become San Nicolò Beach with its golden sand and crystal-clear water.
San Nicolò Beach: three kilometers of golden sand
San Nicolò Beach stretches for about three kilometers along the Costa Verde coast. The sand here is fine and golden, and the water is cold and crystal clear. The beach is divided into two zones: an equipped area with sun loungers, umbrellas, and a beach bar, and a wild area where you can find solitude among the dunes. To the left of the beach lies the port of Buggerru — a natural sheltered harbor from which ferries depart.
Surfing and kitesurfing: the Mistral wind
The west coast of Sardinia is well known among surfers and kitesurfers for its steady winds. The Mistral — a northwest wind that blows here regularly, creating ideal conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing. In the port of Buggerru, the waves are not suitable for classic surfing due to the shallow water and active ferry traffic, but in the open sea, especially in strong winds, dozens of surfers gather.
How to get to San Nicolò Beach
You can reach Buggerru by car via the SP82 highway from Olbia — about a 15-minute drive. There is no direct bus service to San Nicolò Beach: from the bus stops at the port, you need to walk. The port of Buggerru is also connected by ferry to other towns in Sardinia, making it a convenient starting point for your journey.
Infrastructure and attractions
The center of Buggerru is built around the San Giovanni Battista church, with houses spreading along the hillsides toward the sea. On the San Nicolò peninsula, in addition to the beach, there is the San Nicolò church and a former monastery that was later used as a military facility. Nearby are the ruins of old mines, including the Henry Gallery — a tunnel that connected the mining area to the coast; guided tours are now offered here.
What the camera shows
The webcam is installed on the Nicolò Portixeddu promenade and shows a real-time panorama of San Nicolò Beach. During the day, the broadcast shows golden sands, rolling waves, beach umbrellas and sun loungers, with the mountainous coastline of the peninsula in the background. On the left side of the frame is the port with its piers and yachts. At night, the camera shows the illuminated lights of the ferry terminal, the lighting of the piers, and the outlines of boats in the marina. The live stream runs around the clock, allowing you to observe the weather, waves, and beach life at any time of day.
