Racibórz Roundabout — a new generation traffic interchange
Racibórz is a city in Silesia with a rich history, where modern infrastructure intertwines with centuries-old heritage. One of the key elements of the road network has become the roundabout at the intersection of Armii Krajowej and Zamkowa streets. The Racibórz roundabout web camera allows real-time monitoring of traffic at this important transport hub.
The roundabout was put into operation in November 2020 and immediately became one of the most discussed facilities in the city. The construction cost a substantial amount — about 11.5 million PLN, of which 9.21 million PLN was spent directly on the roundabout itself. The remaining funds were allocated for the reconstruction of access roads.
Location and landmarks
The roundabout is located in the southern part of Racibórz, at the junction of several important highways. Armii Krajowej Street is one of the city's main transport arteries, named after the legendary Polish underground organization. Armia Krajowa was created on February 14, 1942 and by 1944 numbered about 390,000 soldiers, becoming the largest underground army in occupied Europe.
Zamkowa Street leads to the historic city center, where the famous castle and other attractions are located. The intersection of these two highways has always been problematic for drivers — which is exactly why a modern roundabout was needed.
Why is the roundabout called "at Mechanik"?
The residents of Racibórz have their own unofficial name for this intersection — "rondo przy Mechaniku" (roundabout at Mechanik). This name comes from the nearby "Mechanik" enterprise, which for decades was one of the main landmarks in this part of the city. Local residents were accustomed to navigating by this facility, and even after the modern interchange appeared, the old name stuck in everyday use.
In 2020, the NaszRaciborz.pl portal conducted a reader poll about the official name of the new intersection. The option "Rondo Zamkowe" received 66.9% of the votes — 2,081 votes out of 3,111 participants. However, the final approval of the name was delayed, and both versions are still in use today.
Road conditions and routes
The opening of the roundabout in November 2020 was a long-awaited event for drivers. Before that, the section of road DW 919 towards Gliwice operated with serious restrictions — drivers were forced to move alternately, creating constant traffic jams. After the roundabout was launched, traffic was fully restored.
The Racibórz online camera allows you to assess the current traffic load at the intersection. This is especially useful for those planning a trip to Gliwice or back to Racibórz — you can find out in advance whether there are traffic jams on the access roads. The roundabout connects DW 935 and DW 919 roads, providing transit traffic between Upper Silesia and the Czech Republic.
Technical features of the broadcast
The web camera is positioned to cover the maximum area of the roundabout. City buildings are visible in the upper part of the frame — multi-story residential buildings, typical development of Racibórz. Red tiles can be seen on the roofs of some buildings, characteristic of Silesian architecture.
It should be noted that the broadcast has technical features. The lower part of the frame (about 75% of the image) may be affected by vertical colored stripes — these are video stream distortion artifacts associated with data transmission. In the upper right corner, the logo "RACIBÓRZ 24." is displayed — a local information portal.
Racibórz — a city with history
Racibórz is one of the oldest cities in Upper Silesia, with the first mentions dating back to the 12th century. The city is located on the Oder River and for centuries has been an important trade and cultural center of the region. Today it is a modern city with a population of about 55,000 residents, where historical heritage is carefully preserved while infrastructure is being developed.
The roundabout at the intersection of Armii Krajowej and Zamkowa is a vivid example of this approach. The modern transport hub is integrated into the historic urban environment, providing convenience for residents and visitors without compromising the city's architectural appearance.
What you can see on the camera
The Racibórz roundabout web camera broadcasts a view of the roundabout from above. The following are visible in the frame:
— The multi-lane roundabout circular movement
— The intersection of Armii Krajowej and Zamkowa streets
— City buildings in the upper part of the frame — residential apartment blocks
— A building with a characteristic red tile roof
— Trees and shrubs, street lighting
— The "RACIBÓRZ 24." logo in the upper right corner
Please note: the lower part of the image may be partially illegible due to technical video stream artifacts — vertical colored stripes. This is a data transmission feature that does not affect the operation of the roundabout itself, but may make it difficult to view the road situation in detail in the immediate vicinity of the camera.
The Racibórz online camera operates in real time and allows you to monitor traffic at one of the city's key intersections. It is a convenient tool for drivers planning routes through the southern part of Racibórz and for anyone interested in the life of this Silesian city.
