Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Center Dock — Online Webcam
Dock Location and Infrastructure
The live webcam is installed on the grounds of Ocean Isle Fishing Center, located at 65 Causeway Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469, on the shore of the Intracoastal Waterway. It is a full-scale base for water sports and fishing, offering charter fishing, equipment rental, boat launching, dry storage, and wet slips for yachts and boats. The Fuel Dock provides gasoline and diesel fuel for marine vessels.
The live camera shows a wooden dock where white motor fishing boats moor. In the foreground is a spacious terrace with colorful Adirondack chairs and white round tables, where visitors can watch the tides or simply enjoy the view of the waterway.
History of Ocean Isle Beach and the Fishing Center
The area where the fishing center now stands was called Hale Beach in the first half of the 20th century, named after Hale Swamp. In the 1930s, the Intracoastal Waterway was dredged here, and access to the island became exclusively by water. Active development of the eastern end of the island began in the 1950s, and in 1959, the town of Ocean Isle Beach was officially incorporated.
The Ocean Isle Beach Pier, located near the fishing center, was built in 1957 and celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2022. It is one of the first major infrastructure facilities in the town and still operates as a public fishing spot. In the 1950s and 1960s, the first hotel and pier appeared here, marking the beginning of tourism development in the region.
What's Caught at the Ocean Isle Beach Pier
The Ocean Isle Beach fishing pier is renowned for its diverse catch. At different times of year, anglers catch whiting, red drum, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, sheepshead, croaker, and mackerel. This diverse mix of species makes it attractive to both local fishermen and tourists who want to try their hand at sea fishing.
In warm months, the catch is most abundant — the water off the North Carolina coast warms up, and fish come closer to shore. Fishing doesn't stop in winter, though it requires more patience and experience.
Architecture and Development of the Opposite Shore
Across the Intracoastal Waterway, opposite the pier and fishing center, are coastal-style homes (Coastal Living Homes), including Waterway Cove cottages and individual waterfront estates. The houses are predominantly wooden, built on stilts or with private docks and canal access. The area is described as a "boater's paradise" with direct ocean access.
These houses are clearly visible from the webcam in the background — they create a picturesque backdrop for the entire waterway and emphasize the resort character of the area.
Vegetation and Nature of the Waterway
Around the dock is a calm waterway with reed beds and marsh vegetation. Such ecosystems are typical of the North Carolina coast and serve as natural habitat for many waterfowl, crabs, and small fish. To the left of the camera, palm trees add a tropical touch to the landscape.
Marsh vegetation plays an important role in water filtration and maintaining the ecological balance in this area of the Intracoastal Waterway. For tourists, it's an opportunity to observe wildlife in close proximity to civilization.
Restaurant and Additional Services
The fishing center is connected to Ocean Isle Fish Company — an open-air waterfront restaurant operating on the same grounds. The restaurant is run by the team that previously opened the popular OIFC Wing and Fish Company in Shallotte. It's a place where you can try dishes made from fresh sea fish caught literally from the neighboring pier.
On the building to the left of the camera are signs with information about the center's services, charter schedules, and fishing rules. For visitors who aren't into fishing, the terrace with Adirondack chairs is a great place to simply spend time by the water.
