The historic platform in East Troy was built in 1907 as part of The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light system. At its peak, the network spanned over 200 miles of track across southeastern Wisconsin. Passenger service ended in 1939, but the electric line between East Troy and Mukwonago survived for freight operations, allowing it to endure to this day.

The historic power station building at East Troy now serves as the waiting room for the East Troy Electric Railroad Museum. East Troy Electric Railroad: The Last of Its Kind
The East Troy Electric Railroad has retained its status as a "common carrier" and interchanges with Canadian National Railway. It is the only surviving portion of Wisconsin's once-extensive interurban electric transit network. The East Troy Electric Railroad is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1984, management transferred to the Wisconsin Trolley Museum, which began operating the line as the East Troy Electric Railroad. Today, the museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization, and the railroad is operated primarily by volunteers.
The Museum and Themed Trains
The East Troy Railroad Museum offers a 7-mile (11 km) ride on historic electric trains between East Troy and Mukwonago through the scenic Kettle Moraine landscape. On the museum grounds stands Wisconsin State Historical Marker No. 190. The museum runs themed trains: Harvest Fest Trains, Trick or Treat Trains, and Chicago Day lunch trains.

The Village of East Troy has a population of approximately 5,673 (2020 census) and is located in Walworth County. The village is home to the East Troy Village Square — a historic town square with shops, breweries, and restaurants.
