History of the "Planet" Park

The "Planet" amusement park appeared in Astrakhan thanks to entrepreneur Oleg Sarychev, who secured a land lease in 2002 under Mayor Igor Bezrukavnikov. For two decades, the park remained one of the city's favorite family recreation spots. The owner repeatedly emphasized that for him it was not a commercial project, but a hobby and a labor of love.

In July 2022, the park was temporarily closed for two weeks due to threats of criminal liability, but after resolving the legal issues, operations resumed. However, the park finally ceased to exist in August 2023, when a tragedy occurred — a 4-year-old child drowned. Following this incident, Oleg Sarychev was arrested, and the rides were mothballed.

The Ferris Wheel — a Symbol of Astrakhan Entertainment

The park's main attraction was the only Ferris wheel in Astrakhan. It served not only as a ride but also as an observation deck offering views of the city. However, as local residents note, the wheel's location was not the most fortunate — the surrounding area was predominantly industrial, so from the height, the view was mainly of tire shop rooftops and industrial facilities rather than picturesque panoramas.

What Was in the Park

"Planet" was the largest entertainment venue in Astrakhan with more than 20 rides. There were trampolines, carousels, catamarans, children's and family slides. The territory was well-maintained: walkways, green spaces, and rest areas with benches. Nearby were shopping complexes and a gas station, making the park convenient for full-day family outings.

Scandal Over the Development of the Territory

In the park's final years, a conflict erupted around it. Proposals were made to develop the territory with a residential complex, which sparked protests from local residents and the intervention of Governor Igor Babushkin. Citizens advocated for preserving the recreation zone, but the park's fate had already been sealed by the tragic events of 2023. Currently, the territory effectively no longer functions as an entertainment venue.
