Rubtsov and Abramov Streets in Pargolovo — Online Webcam
Literary Intersection: Rubtsov and Abramov in Pargolovo
The online webcam opens a view of a place where the fates of two great Russian writers symbolically intersect. Nikolai Rubtsov Street and Fyodor Abramov Street appeared on the map of the new Parnas district in 2010. The names were approved by a resolution of the toponymic commission at the suggestion of the Governor of Saint Petersburg Valentina Matviyenko. Nikolai Rubtsov was a Vologda poet, and Fyodor Abramov was an Arkhangelsk prose writer, author of the famous tetralogy "Prylins." Both writers became neighbors on the map of Pargolovo, creating a special literary atmosphere in the new residential developments.
From Villages to Parnas: How the District Changed
The camera's real-time view shows the active Severnaya Dolina district, but the history of this place goes far back into the past. Pargolovo is a historic settlement in the north of Saint Petersburg, which in the early 20th century included the villages of Starozhilovka, Kabalovka, and Zamanilovka. Today the settlement belongs to the Vyborgsky District, and its new part has been built up since the 2010s. The appearance of streets with literary names, such as Okhotskaya and Verkhoyanskaya, emphasizes the northern flavor of this part of Pargolovo.
Shuvalov Park and Mount Parnas: Natural Gems
Although the online camera focuses on the intersection, unique natural and historical sites are located in the immediate vicinity. Shuvalov Park, covering 142 hectares, is a monument of landscape gardening art and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby is Mount Parnas — an artificial hill 61 meters high, created back in the mid-18th century. From its summit, the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral was once visible, and the hill itself gave the name to the modern neighborhood.
Church of Peter and Paul: Neo-Gothic in Pargolovo
In Upper Pargolovo, near the broadcast location, stands the majestic Church of Peter and Paul. It was laid in the summer of 1831 according to the design of architect Alexander Bryullov in the Neo-Gothic style. Originally the temple was planned as the Church of the Great Martyr Catherine, but was consecrated in honor of the apostles. This place preserves the memory of great musicians: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was married here, and Modest Mussorgsky was the best man at the ceremony.
