Grand View Lodge webcam in Nisswa — live feed from Gull Lake
Grand View Lodge History — Over a Century on the Shores of Gull Lake
In northern Minnesota, amid dense coniferous forests and countless lakes, stands a resort that has been welcoming guests for over a century. Grand View Lodge was founded in 1916 as a modest resort complex on the shores of Gull Lake. Over the past hundred-plus years, it has grown into one of the main attractions of the Brainerd Lakes Area region, all while preserving that very atmosphere of northern coziness that drew the first guests here.
The resort has grown to impressive proportions: today it features 7 restaurants, a spa, two golf courses, a conference center, and over 200 guest cabins. The rooms are decorated in a rustic-chic style, where natural wood and stone sit alongside modern comforts. The North Hotel is a boutique hotel combining urban amenities with the tranquility of Minnesota's northern forests.
If you want to see this place with your own eyes, the live webcam on our page shows the resort's beach area in real time. It's a great opportunity to check out the surroundings before your trip or simply enjoy the lake view without leaving home.
Gull Lake — Minnesota's Gem
The body of water you see on the camera is Gull Lake, covering approximately 9,418 acres (about 38 km²). It is the largest of the seven lakes with this name in Minnesota, both in terms of area and shoreline length. The average depth of the lake is 30 feet (about 9 meters), and the shores are densely developed — there are 27.8 homes and 19 resorts per mile of shoreline.
Gull Lake is a true paradise for anglers. Its waters are home to walleye, northern pike, perch, and bass. Fishing here is not just a hobby but part of the local culture. Boats and canoes can be seen on the water at almost any time of year, and in winter, hundreds of fishing shanties appear on the ice.
Grand View Lodge owns 2,500 feet (about 760 meters) of shoreline on this lake. It is one of the longest private stretches of coastline in the region, providing resort guests with direct access to the water.
Nisswa — A Small Town with Ojibwe Soul
The resort is located in the town of Nisswa — a small but remarkably colorful place. The town was founded in 1900 as Smiley Township but was later renamed after the Ojibwe word "nessawae," meaning "in the middle" or "three". This name reflects Nisswa's location between three lakes — Gull, Roy, and Nisswa.
Nisswa's Main Street is famous for its antique shops, breweries, boutiques, and restaurants. It's a place where tourists spend hours browsing between shops and sampling local craft beer. Mount Ski Gull offers year-round activities — from downhill skiing in winter to hiking in summer.
The Nisswa webcam on our page shows not just a resort but a part of this unique town where Native American culture intertwines with modern tourism.
Wildlife of the Northern Forests
The Brainerd Lakes Area is surrounded by lakes, forests, and small towns, making it an ideal destination for family outdoor recreation. Birdwatching is a popular pastime here: bald eagles, bitterns, herons, and dozens of songbird species inhabit the area.
A few minutes' drive from Grand View Lodge is Safari North Wildlife Park, home to 140 animal species from around the world. Here you can see giraffes, zebras, bears, and wolves in naturalistic enclosures. It is one of the region's main attractions, drawing thousands of families each year.
Deer, beavers, and otters are frequently spotted on the resort grounds. If you're lucky, you may catch them on the webcam — they sometimes appear on the shore in the early morning hours.
Seasonal Transformations — What Changes on Camera
Grand View Lodge and Gull Lake transform dramatically with each passing season. In summer, the beach is filled with vacationers, yachts and water skis glide across the lake, and Adirondack chairs are occupied by guests reading books or simply watching the sunset.
Autumn brings crimson and gold hues to the surrounding forests. The resort fills with fall fishing and hiking enthusiasts. Maple and oak leaves turn incredible shades, creating a panorama worth seeing.
In winter, the lake freezes over, turning into a vast white plain. Snowmobiles, cross-country skiers, and fishing shanties appear on the ice. The resort doesn't slow down — Mount Ski Gull operates at full capacity, and the Glacial Waters Spa welcomes guests looking to warm up after an active day outdoors.
Spring on Gull Lake is a time of awakening. The ice melts, birds return from the south, and the resort prepares for a new season. The live webcam allows you to observe these changes year-round.
Resort Infrastructure — What Grand View Lodge Offers
In addition to the beach and pier visible on the camera, Grand View Lodge offers guests 45 championship-level golf holes and the Glacial Waters Spa. It is a full-fledged resort complex where you can spend a week without ever leaving the property.
The resort's restaurants specialize in local cuisine — fresh fish from Gull Lake, game, berries, and mushrooms from the surrounding forests. Birch Lake Boathouse offers waterfront lunches, while the Main Dining Room serves fine dinners in a northern lodge atmosphere.
A conference center caters to business travelers, while families can enjoy kids' programs, water activities, and local excursions. The live webcam on our page is just a small window into this world, but it gives you a sense of its scale.
What's Visible on the Camera
The Grand View Lodge webcam broadcasts the resort's beach area on the shore of Gull Lake. In the frame is a sandy beach with white Adirondack-style chairs and a folded blue umbrella in the foreground. A concrete terrace with furniture frames the view on the left, while tree branches on the right create a natural frame.
A long wooden pier with two docked pontoon boats extends into the water. The lake surface occupies most of the frame, and the far shore of Gull Lake is visible in the distance. This is a live real-time broadcast — you see exactly what you would see standing on the resort grounds.
The camera operates around the clock, allowing you to watch sunrises and sunsets on the lake, changing weather, and seasonal landscape shifts. It's a great way to plan your trip or simply enjoy the beauty of northern Minnesota, wherever you are.
