Malbun Ice Tower in Liechtenstein — Live Webcam
In the tiny principality of Liechtenstein, nestled between Switzerland and Austria, lies a unique sports facility — the Malbun Ice Tower. This is not a natural formation, but a man-made structure for extreme sports enthusiasts. If you want to see ice climbers in action, this live webcam will take you right to the foot of the vertical wall.
A Unique Sports Facility in the Heart of the Alps
The Malbun resort is situated at an altitude of about 1600 meters above sea level in a narrow valley surrounded by mountain ranges. This is where the ice tower rises, reaching a height of up to 20 meters. The structure is a metal lattice tower used for both ice climbing and rock climbing. This place attracts extreme sports enthusiasts from all over Europe, and the Malbun webcam allows everyone to appreciate the scale of the structure.
How the Ice Tower is Created
Many mistakenly take this structure for a natural phenomenon, but the ice tower is an artificial object. It is created by the Liechtenstein Alpine Club. The construction process depends on the weather: at consistently low temperatures, water freezes on the metal frame, forming a solid ice crust. The result is a perfect route for practicing ice climbing skills.
Dry Ice Climbing and Training
One of the features of this place is the possibility of year-round training. When there is no ice cover, athletes practice dry ice climbing (drytooling) on the climbing wall with colorful holds. Dry ice climbing is possible at any time on the tower. In addition, the ice climbing team of the Liechtenstein Alpine Club regularly trains here on Wednesday evenings.
History of the Malbun Ski Resort
The village of Malbun itself remained in the shadows for a long time. Until the 14th century, this secluded valley was used exclusively for agriculture and forestry due to the lack of transport links. Today it is a popular family resort that turns into a center of attraction for mountain sports enthusiasts in winter, including unique ice climbing.
Safety Rules and Equipment
Ice climbing is a dangerous sport, so strict rules are in place on the tower. A helmet on the wall is mandatory, but equipment rental is usually not provided. Tourists need to take care of having their own gear in advance, including ice axes and crampons.
What You Can See on the Camera
The live camera is positioned so that the entire Malbun Ice Tower is in the frame. The image shows a tall metal lattice structure with a vertical climbing wall attached, equipped with colorful holds and marked routes. In the background is a multi-story building with wooden facade cladding. In front of the objects stretches a green grassy area, and above all this is a clear alpine sky. You can watch athletes overcome vertical walls right now.
