Kopaonik in Serbia — online webcam
The Kopaonik Mountain Range — The Heart of Serbia
Kopaonik is the largest and highest mountain range in Serbia, stretching for 82 kilometers. This webcam in real time shows snowy slopes and coniferous forests that make Kopaonik one of the most scenic places in the Balkans. The mountain's name is linked to mining — the Serbian word "kopa" means "to dig," and the depths contain iron, lead, zinc, silver, and gold.
Kopaonik earned the poetic nickname "Sunny Mountains" thanks to approximately 200 sunny days per year. This makes online viewing especially comfortable — even in winter, the camera often shows a clear panorama of the peaks.
National Park — Protected Nature
Kopaonik National Park was established in 1981 and covers an area of 121.06 km². The territory contains 15 first-degree nature reserves, where nature self-regulates without human intervention.
Kopaonik's flora includes over 1,600 species of herbs, of which 825 are high-mountain flora, 91 species are endemic, and 82 are subendemic. The forests are dominated by Balkan beech, unique fir, spruce, yew, several species of maple, oak, and pine. Kopaonik is home to three local endemics that can only be found on this mountain.
Fauna of the Protected Forests
The wildlife of Kopaonik is rich and diverse. It is home to golden jackal, golden eagle, gray wolf, roe deer, wild cat, and red deer — the latter being a reintroduced species. By observing the coniferous forest through the camera, you can spot traces of these animals' activity in the snow.
Ski Resort — History and Scale
The Kopaonik ski resort — the first in Serbia — opened in 1964. The ski center sits at an altitude of 1,770 m, surrounded by the peaks of Karaman (1,904 m), Velika Gobelja (1,934 m), Vručak (1,936 m), Suvo Rudište (1,976 m), and Pančićev Vrh (2,017 m).
The total length of ski trails is 55 km, with a maximum elevation difference of 960 m. The trails are FIS-certified. The camera covers open sections of the slopes, where groomed trails and operating lifts are visible.
Pančić's Peak — The Roof of Serbia
Kopaonik's elevation ranges from 640 m to 2,017 m — the exact height of Pančić's Peak, which is called the "Roof of Serbia." In 1951, on the 100th anniversary of Josif Pančić's first expedition, the peak was renamed from Milan's Peak to Pančić's Peak, and a mausoleum with his remains and those of his wife was built at the summit.
The central plateau of Kopaonik — Suvo Rudište — sits at an altitude of about 1,700 m and is surrounded by mountain peaks. This is the panorama that opens up from the webcam — dramatic skies, snow-covered spruces and pines, endless mountain slopes.
Panoramic Views and Rock Formations
"Eagle's Rocks" — picturesque cliffs on Kopaonik offering a magnificent view of the mountains and coniferous forests of the range. At the summit of Pančić's Peak, there are 4 ski lifts from which the panorama of the entire ski area is visible: neighboring peaks, a military base, and lifts in Brzeče and Haski.
Seasonal Changes in the Landscape
In winter, the Kopaonik camera shows a classic ski resort landscape: thick snow cover, snow-laden coniferous trees, operating lifts and trails. In summer, the same view transforms — the slopes are covered with a green carpet of alpine meadows, rock outcrops are exposed, and the forests take on a rich emerald hue.
