When her father forbade their meetings, Panganoron challenged a rival to battle and fell in combat. Unable to bear the grief, Daragang Magayon took her own life, and a majestic volcano rose from the site of her burial. Ever since, Mayon's eruptions have been regarded as manifestations of the passion and fury of lovers separated in life.
