Voss Fjellheisar Ski Resort in Norway — Online Webcam
History of Voss Fjellheisar
Voss Fjellheisar ski resort is a place where the history of Norwegian skiing intertwines with modern infrastructure. It all started in the village of Bavallen, where the first ski lift was installed in 1948 — one of the first lifts in all of Norway. In those years, local enthusiasts literally built the foundation for the future resort with their own hands.
Development came through volunteer movement and community work. In the 1960s–80s, the people's association L/L Voss Ski og Fjellheisar built the first key lifts — Hangursbanen, Hangursheisen and Horgaletten — and also laid out the first runs, including the famous Slettafjellstrekka. This period laid the foundation for what Voss Fjellheisar is today.
Infrastructure and runs
Today, Voss Fjellheisar is one of the largest ski centers in Western Norway. The resort features 11 lifts: 4 chairlifts, 5 surface lifts and 2 gondolas. The vertical drop is 645 meters, providing diverse terrain for skiing.
The resort offers 24 ski runs for all skill levels. There are children's areas, illuminated runs for evening skiing, and freeride zones. Most slopes are located above the treeline on wide open terrain, giving skiers and snowboarders a sense of space and freedom.
Slope difficulty levels
The resort suits both beginners and experienced riders. Beginners are recommended to stay in the valley — the Grebbesbakken area is ideal for first descents. Here you'll find gentle slopes and comfortable learning conditions.
For confident skiers and experts, the upper sections of the resort offer steeper runs and freeride terrain near the lifts. The wide open spaces above the treeline allow you to choose virtually any descent route depending on your skill level and mood.
Views and landscape
One of the main reasons to visit Voss Fjellheisar is the stunning views. From the summits of Hangurstoppen, Slettafjellet and Horgaletten there are breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding mountain ranges. Pristine snow, coniferous forests below, and endless mountain expanses create the very atmosphere that people travel to Norway for.
The resort is known for stunning views of the surrounding mountains and pristine snow. This is a place where the nature of Western Norway reveals itself in all its glory — without city noise and hustle, just mountains, snow, and silence.
Activities beyond alpine skiing
Voss Fjellheisar is not just about alpine skiing. The resort offers cross-country skiing, ski touring, freeride terrain by the lifts, hiking and mountain biking in summer. In winter, snowshoe walks and ski touring on the surrounding slopes are popular.
In summer, the mountain trails turn into hiking and mountain biking routes. The same infrastructure that serves skiers in winter opens up the summits for hikers in summer. Voss is a year-round destination, and the resort fully lives up to that.
