Table Mountain Cape Town — online webcam with panoramic views
Table Mountain — the iconic landmark of Cape Town
Table Mountain rises above Cape Town at 1086 meters above sea level, and its silhouette has become the main symbol of South Africa. The flat summit stretching about 3 kilometers from edge to edge is not just a geological feature, but a site on the New7Wonders of Nature list. The mountain is part of Table Mountain National Park and is visible from virtually anywhere in the city. The live webcam allows you to observe this landmark in real time, no matter where in the world you are.
The "Tablecloth" cloud: a natural wonder above the summit
One of the most spectacular phenomena is the so-called "Tablecloth" cloud, which covers the plateau like a white tablecloth on a table. This orographic cloud forms with the southeasterly wind typical of spring and summer months. Moist air from the Atlantic Ocean rises along the steep slopes, cools, and water vapor condenses into a dense cloud. The process happens very quickly — within minutes the summit can be completely hidden under a white veil. This cloud provides moisture for the lush vegetation on the plateau and is one of Cape Town's most recognizable natural phenomena.
Flora and fauna: more plant species than in the entire United Kingdom
Table Mountain is home to around 2200 plant species — more than in the entire United Kingdom. Many endemic species live here, found nowhere else on Earth. Fynbos — the unique vegetation zone of the Cape Floristic Region — is represented here in all its diversity. Among the animals, you can spot dassies (rock hyraxes), which are accustomed to tourists and often appear in photos at the viewing platforms. The live camera offers a chance to see this ecosystem in its natural habitat.
History: from Hoerikwaggo to Table Mountain
The indigenous people — the Khoisan — called the mountain Hoerikwaggo, which translates to "mountain in the sea." In 1503, Portuguese admiral António de Saldanha became the first European to climb to the summit and named it Taboa do Cabo — "Table of the Cape" — due to its characteristic flat shape. Over time, the name evolved into Table Mountain in English and Столовая гора in Russian. Today, it is one of the most visited natural sites in Africa.
Best views of Table Mountain
Table Mountain itself is not the only observation point. Neighboring peaks offer stunning panoramas. Lion's Head provides the classic view of Table Mountain with the Atlantic Ocean in the background, especially popular at sunset. Signal Hill offers a 360-degree panorama: the city, the ocean, the mountains, and a view of the "back" side of Table Mountain. From the plateau itself, there are views of Table Bay, Robben Island, and the Cape of Good Hope. The online webcam lets you see the mountain from the city side without climbing to the top.
The cableway and ascent to the summit
The Table Mountain Cableway is one of the most popular ways to reach the summit. The cabins with rotating floors make a full turn during the ascent, providing passengers with a 360-degree panoramic view. At the very top, there is a trail stretching over 2 kilometers with numerous viewing platforms. The ascent takes about 5 minutes, and it is the only way to reach the plateau without a hiking climb. For those not ready for physical exertion, the live webcam is the perfect way to see the mountain in real time.

In the foreground are the rooftops of residential buildings and green trees, in the background — the characteristic flat summit of Table Mountain with neighboring peaks and urban development stretching to the horizon. Depending on the weather, you can observe the famous "Tablecloth" cloud covering the plateau or clear skies above the summit. The live camera shows Table Mountain and the city of Cape Town at any time of day — it is a direct broadcast from a living location where every moment is unique.
