History of Jasna Ski Resort

The history of Jasna Ski Resort began in the 1950s when the first cable car system was built. Since then, a small mountain base has grown into the largest winter sports hub in Central Europe. Interestingly, the first skis were brought to Slovakia as early as 1865, and the oldest film footage of skiing in the country dates back to 1908. Jasna has embraced this rich tradition and continues to develop it, welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests every year.

Chopok Mountain stands at 2,024 m and is the second-highest peak in the Low Tatras after Ďumbier (2,043 m). It is Chopok that has become the main draw for skiers from across Europe. The longest ski run in Slovakia starts from the summit of Chopok and stretches for about 5.5 km, descending through Končiny Grúň and Rovná Holia to the village of Lučky with an elevation drop from 2,003 m to 943 m. For those who enjoy skiing after dark, Jasna offers night skiing on the slopes in the Lucky (Laky) area.

Low Tatras National Park is one of the largest national parks in Slovakia: it covers nearly 73,000 hectares, and the mountain range stretches for over 80 km. The Demänovská Valley, which surrounds Jasna, is known for its extensive karst formations, including around 30 caves open to visitors — in particular, the Demänovská Cave of Freedom and the Ice Cave. Jasna is located in a picturesque part of Slovakia, in the Liptov region, not far from the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. You can reach it by car on good roads or by public transport from Bratislava or Košice. The resort infrastructure includes numerous hotels, apartments, restaurants, and rental outlets.
