Baranchinsky — a settlement with a three-century history

Lost among the Ural forests, at the confluence of the Aktay and Barancha rivers, lies a settlement whose fate is inextricably linked with the mining history of the Urals. Baranchinsky was founded in 1743 as a settlement at a state-owned metallurgical plant. At first, cast iron was smelted here, then — in 1921 — the plant was repurposed, and the first electric motor appeared in its workshops. Since then, the enterprise has become one of the flagships of the country's electromechanical industry.

Today, Baranchinsky is a large urban-type settlement in the Kushva urban district of Sverdlovsk Oblast. It is located 16 kilometers south of Kushva and 157 kilometers north of Yekaterinburg. Despite the fact that in Soviet times the population exceeded 13 thousand people, today the settlement has about 9.5 thousand residents. Nevertheless, it remains one of the largest settlements in the region and maintains its status as an important industrial and cultural center of the area.

The plant that changed everything

The heart of Baranchinsky is its electromechanical plant. In 1921, the first electric motor was assembled here, and since then the enterprise has come a long way from a small plant to a leading manufacturer of electric machines. During the Great Patriotic War, the plant produced shells and equipment for the front, and in peacetime it became the main developer of electric motors for various industries.

The plant didn't just provide jobs for the settlement — it shaped its appearance. Residential quarters grew up around the enterprise, cultural institutions, schools, and sports facilities appeared. Even today, when the industrial landscape is changing, the plant remains the main symbol of Baranchinsky, and its history is a source of pride for local residents.

Modern Baranchinsky: life and infrastructure

The settlement lives the measured life of a Ural workers' settlement. The central streets — Kommuny, Pobedy, Krasnoarmeyskaya — form the core of Baranchinsky, where the main infrastructure is concentrated. Administrative buildings, shops, cafes, post office, and other everyday facilities are located here.

For those who want to see the life of the settlement in real time, Baranchinsky's webcams are working. They broadcast central intersections and streets, allowing you to assess the road situation, weather, and atmosphere of the settlement at any time of day. This is a convenient way to look into Baranchinsky without leaving home.

Attractions and places for walks

Despite its industrial character, Baranchinsky is interesting for its natural and architectural sites. The main natural attraction is Sinyaya Mountain, located in the vicinity of the settlement. From its summit, there is a panoramic view of Baranchinsky and the surrounding forests. This is a popular place for hiking, especially in summer.

In the settlement itself, it is worth paying attention to the pond formed by the dam on the Barancha River. The banks of the pond are a favorite vacation spot for local residents, especially in the warm season. Nearby is the park behind the Miners' Palace of Culture, where you can walk along the alleys and sit on benches in the shade of trees.

Sports and education: the pride of the settlement

Baranchinsky can rightfully be proud of its educational infrastructure. School No. 20 named after Hero of the Soviet Union P.A. Polushkin is the largest educational institution in the settlement, where children from different areas study. The school has two buildings — for junior and senior classes — and is equipped with modern equipment.

In addition to the school, Baranchinsky has the Fakel extracurricular center, an art school, and the Baranchinsky Electrotechnical College. This makes the settlement an educational center not only for its residents but also for neighboring settlements.

Sports life in Baranchinsky is centered around the Gornyak sports complex, which has a hockey rink and a ski school. The ice arena hosts competitions of various levels, and in winter, young hockey players from all over the area come here. Webcams are also installed on the territory of School No. 20, broadcasting the sports facilities of the settlement.

Nature around Baranchinsky

The Ural nature here manifests itself in all its glory. The forests surrounding the settlement are rich in mushrooms and berries, and the Barancha and Aktay rivers attract fishing enthusiasts. The surroundings of Baranchinsky are a typical Middle Ural landscape: mixed forests, hills, small streams and ravines.

The climate here is moderately continental with cold winters and warm summers. Snow falls as early as November and lasts until April, and in summer temperatures can rise to +25...+30°C. Baranchinsky's webcams allow you to observe the change of seasons in real time — from snow-covered streets in winter to green parks in summer.
