Kohimarama Yacht Club Auckland — Online Webcam with Waitemata Harbour View
Kohimarama Yacht Club — Auckland's Sailing Capital
Auckland is unofficially known as the "City of Sails", and Kohimarama Yacht Club is one of the places where this nickname feels especially vivid. The club positions itself as a venue where "future Olympians get their start", and this is more than just a slogan: for decades it has been training young sailors who go on to compete in international regattas. The live camera is installed on the club's premises and shows a panoramic view of the coastline — from the sandy beach to the horizon, where the islands of the Hauraki Gulf are visible.
Location and How to Get There
Kohimarama Yacht Club is located at 80 Tamaki Drive, Kohimarama, Auckland 1071 — on the city's eastern waterfront along Tamaki Drive. The Kohimarama area sits between two popular beach zones — Mission Bay and St Heliers. The nearest bus stop is Stop C Mission Bay, approximately 930 metres from the club. Postal address for correspondence: PO Box 25-007, St Heliers, Auckland 1740.
Club History: From Youth School to Olympic Training Base
Kohimarama Yacht Club was founded in 1939 as a youth club for sailing education. It was originally created as an educational platform — to teach children and teenagers how to handle sailboats. The club building on Gower's Point (between Kohimarama and St Heliers) was completed in 1957 and has since remained the centre of sailing life in eastern Auckland.
Views from Tamaki Drive Waterfront
Tamaki Drive is one of Auckland's most scenic coastal roads. The Mission Bay area and coastline are home to several yacht clubs and marinas. The closest neighbour is Tamaki Yacht Club, just 139 metres from Kohimarama Yacht Club. Along the entire coastline stretch yacht moorings, and on any given day you can see dozens of sailboats and dinghies on the water. The Kohimarama Yacht Club webcam faces west and covers Kohimarama Beach — a sandy strip, shallow waters near the shore, and the open sea beyond.
Rangitoto Island on the Horizon
From the yacht club grounds, there is a view of the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island — a neighbouring landmark of the Kohimarama area. Rangitoto is a dormant volcanic island that dominates the gulf panorama. Its silhouette is clearly visible in the background from the yacht club camera. The island is a nature reserve and a popular destination for ferry trips from downtown Auckland.
What You Can See on the Camera
The Kohimarama Yacht Club webcam operates in real time and shows a panoramic view of Auckland's coastline from the sandy beach. The wide-angle (fisheye) camera captures the coastal zone: the sandy beach on the left, seawater with glints on the surface, and on the horizon — urban development with high-rise buildings and hills. The yacht club marina with its moorings is visible. In the foreground — shallow waters near the shore with visible seabed, beyond that — the open sea. In the distance on the horizon, the outline of land with vegetation and urban structures can be seen, as well as the silhouette of Rangitoto Island.
