The street's name has deep historical roots. Since the early 19th century it has borne the name Petersburgskaya, which was typical for many Russian cities where main streets were named after the capital. However, in August 1914, amid anti-German sentiment, the street was renamed — this happened simultaneously with the renaming of Saint Petersburg to Petrograd. The historic name eventually returned, and today Petersburgskaya Street remains one of the central streets in the city.

How Danilov Received City Status

The settlement's history goes back centuries. The village of Danilovskoye was first mentioned in documents from the mid-15th century, but its true flourishing began during the era of Catherine the Great. On February 23, 1777, the empress signed a decree establishing the Yaroslavl Governorate, under which Danilovskaya Sloboda was transformed into the district town of Danilov.

In the year it received city status, the town had 1,290 residents, with 278 houses, four of which were stone. After that, a regular development plan was implemented, personally approved by Catherine the Great, which determined the city's appearance for centuries to come.

Petersburgskaya Street is renowned for its historic buildings. Architectural monuments from the late 19th century have been preserved here, giving the street a distinctive character.
