Langepas — A City of Oil Workers in Yugra

Langepas is located in the eastern part of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, 300 kilometers from Khanty-Mansiysk. It is one of the young cities of Western Siberia, grown amid the endless taiga on the banks of the Pim River. Today, about 42,000 people live here, and the city continues to develop, maintaining the appearance of a modern northern settlement with well-kept courtyards and green spaces.

The city was founded in 1980 as a settlement for oil workers, and in 1985 it was granted city status. The name "Langepas" translates from the Khanty language as "flying squirrel" — a tribute to the indigenous peoples of the North. Since then, Langepas has come a long way from a small shift settlement to a well-appointed city with its own infrastructure, cultural facilities, and landmarks.

Parkovaya-Solnechnaya Intersection: A Key Transport Artery of the City

The intersection of Parkovaya and Solnechnaya Streets is one of the key transport hubs of Langepas, connecting different districts of the city. Parkovaya Street plays a special role in the urban layout: it serves as a kind of barrier separating the residential area from the vast forest park zone. Langepas Cathedral Mosque: An Architectural Landmark

At the intersection of Parkovaya and Solnechnaya, at 18 Parkovaya Street, stands the Langepas Cathedral Mosque — one of the most striking buildings in the city. It is a two-story structure with two minarets 14 meters high and a dome with a radius of 12 meters above the main prayer hall. The mosque is among the largest and most beautiful mosques in Yugra, and at night its dome and minarets are illuminated, creating a memorable silhouette against the night sky.

Construction of the mosque began in 2008 and was completed in 2011. The interior is also noteworthy: the mihrab — a niche indicating the direction to Mecca — was made in Turkey and gifted by the mufti of the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, who visited Langepas in 2009. The mosque has become not only a place of prayer but also a cultural center for the city's Muslim community.

Park Area and "Begemot" Children's Park

On the opposite side of the intersection, in the green zone on Parkovaya Street, lies the "Begemot" Children's Park — a family space for children and parents to relax. This is a well-maintained area with playgrounds, benches, and pathways where local residents spend their free time. Next to the park, an educational children's playground called "Neftegrad" has been built, introducing young Langepas residents to the profession of an oil worker — the city's main specialty.

The park area at the intersection is not just lawns and trees. It is a full-fledged public space where the paths of residents from different districts cross. Here you can meet parents with children, elderly people taking walks, and young people heading to the city center. A green oasis in the middle of a northern city is a valuable resource for citizens, especially during the short summer.
