History and Legends of La Croix-Valmer
The French Riviera is full of picturesque bays, but La Croix-Valmer holds a special place among them. These lands remember the footsteps of Roman legionaries. The settlement on the site of the modern town was known as far back as the 1st century BC as a resting place for Roman military commanders. Archaeologists have discovered prehistoric tools, cysts, and the remains of the Roman Pardigon farm here. The very name of the town is shrouded in legend: it is believed that in 312 AD, the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great had a vision here of a cross in the sky with the inscription "in hoc signo vinces" ("by this sign you will conquer"). For a long time, the settlement bore the names La Croix, La Croix de Cavalaire, and La Croix des Mimosas, and the official name La Croix Valmer was only approved in 1934 at the suggestion of the first mayor and the postal department, to avoid confusion with communes of the same name. It was on April 6, 1934 that La Croix-Valmer gained the status of an independent commune, separating from Gassin. And in 1895, the Domaine de La Croix company founded the settlement and built a winery, marking the beginning of winemaking history in the region.

Nature and Geography of the Var Coast
The commune is located on the picturesque Cavalaire-sur-Mer bay between Saint-Tropez and Le Lavandou, approximately 20 km south of Saint-Tropez. The Var coastline is generously dotted with long strips of fine sand, such as Débarquement Beach and Gigaro Beach, as well as cozy coves. The commune includes Cap Lardier — a territory with rich flora and fauna, protected along with the Camarat and Taï capes.
Historical Significance: Operation Dragoon
La Croix-Valmer also preserves the memory of 20th-century events. In August 1944, Allied troops landed here as part of Operation Dragoon. The 30-kilometer coastline between Toulon and La Croix-Valmer became the largest landing site, forever inscribing this resort into world history.
