Northern Slope of Postăvarul in Brașov — Online Webcam
Poiana Brașov — the Pearl of Transylvania
In the very heart of Romania, amid the majestic Carpathian Mountains, lies a ski resort that is rightly considered the largest and most modern in the country. Poiana Brașov is not just a dot on the map, but an entire resort area officially recognized as Romania's national standard for mountain tourism. Located at the foot of the Postăvarul massif at an altitude of about 1020 m above sea level, this suburb of Brașov attracts tourists not only in winter but also in summer. The live webcam allows you to see all this splendor in real time without leaving home.
The resort is just 12 kilometers from the center of Brașov — one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Transylvania. You can reach it by bus or car along a winding road that snakes through coniferous forests. Many travelers combine skiing with a visit to the famous Bran Castle and other regional attractions.
Mount Postăvarul — the Heart of the Resort
The dominant feature of the entire area is Mount Postăvarul, reaching about 1800 m above sea level. It is on its northern slope that the webcam is installed, the broadcast from which is available on this page. The northern exposure of the slope ensures longer snow cover retention — a crucial factor for a ski resort. The slopes here are composed of hard rock, with slippery stones in places, creating certain features in trail preparation.
From the summit of Postăvarul, a 360-degree panoramic view opens up — you can see not only all the slopes of Poiana Brașov, but also the distant peaks of the Southern Carpathians, the valley of Brașov with its red tiled roofs and Gothic spires. On clear days, the horizon is limited only by the curvature of the Earth.
History of the Ski Resort
Poiana Brașov traces its history back to 1895, when this area became a tourist district of Brașov. The first tourist cabin appeared here around 1904, and by 1906 Poiana had officially received winter resort status. The first ski competitions took place here in 1909 — since then the resort has repeatedly hosted national and international tournaments.
Poiana Brașov acquired its modern appearance after a large-scale modernization funded by European funds and private investors. In 2011, the resort received investments exceeding 25 million euros for infrastructure upgrades. New lifts, artificial snowmaking systems, expanded slopes — all this brought the resort up to European standards. In 2013, Poiana Brașov hosted the European Youth Olympic Festival with disciplines including figure skating, alpine skiing, and short track.
Postăvarul Expres Cable Car
The central infrastructure element visible in the broadcast is the Postăvarul Expres cable car. This is the resort's newest cable transport, connecting Poiana Brașov with the Jäger Hut (Cabana Postavaru) in about 8 minutes. The cable car is equipped with 8-person cabins and has a capacity of 2200 people per hour. The orange lift structures are clearly visible on the slope — they serve as landmarks for skiers and pedestrians.
On Mount Postăvarul there is also the Cabana Postavaru hut — a popular place for relaxation and tourist accommodation. Here you can stay overnight, try local cuisine, and continue the ascent at dawn. The hut operates year-round, welcoming skiers in winter and hikers in summer.
Seasonal Features of the Slope
The northern slope of Postăvarul has its own climatic characteristics. Due to its north-facing orientation, snow lasts longer here than on the resort's southern slopes. In winter, temperatures can drop to -15°C, and in good snow years the snow cover reaches a meter in depth. The artificial snowmaking system allows the season to be extended even in low-snow years.
In summer, the lifts on Mount Postăvarul continue to operate — the slopes are used for hiking and mountain biking along the trails of the Southern Carpathians. During this season, the webcam shows a completely different picture: instead of snow-covered slopes — green meadows, blooming alpine plants, and tourists in bright gear. The reservoir located on the mountain is visible from the cable car and adds a special flavor to the landscape.
Resort Infrastructure at the Summit
At the summit of Postăvarul, in addition to the Cabana Postavaru hut, there are several resort infrastructure buildings: restaurants, equipment rental points, a medical station, and rescue service stations. All of this is visible in the background of the webcam broadcast. The developed infrastructure makes the northern slope convenient for skiers of all skill levels — from beginners to experts.
Poiana Brașov offers about 25 slopes of varying difficulty, with a total length exceeding 30 kilometers. The northern slope of Postăvarul consists mainly of red and blue slopes suitable for intermediate skiers. For beginners, there are training slopes in the lower part of the resort, and for professionals — black slopes with steep sections.
What You Can See on the Camera
The webcam is installed on the northern slope of Mount Postăvarul and broadcasts a panoramic view of the Poiana Brașov ski resort. In the frame — snow-covered mountain slopes with groomed trails, along which skiers and snowboarders move. On the right, the orange structure of the Postăvarul Expres cable car is visible — the main lift connecting the base to the summit.
Coniferous forest grows on the slopes, in places rising to the tree line, above which the alpine zone begins. At the mountain summit, resort infrastructure buildings are visible — the Cabana Postavaru hut, restaurants, and technical structures. The background features a mountain landscape with valleys and distant Carpathian peaks. In clear weather, the view allows you to examine the finest details of the landscape, and in overcast conditions — to feel the atmosphere of mountain winter with low clouds and snowfall.
The broadcast is in real time, allowing you to assess current conditions on the slope: fresh snow presence, trail occupancy, weather conditions, and visibility. This is especially useful for those planning a trip to the resort and wanting to understand in advance what awaits them on the slopes of Postăvarul.
