Cozumel Island in the state of Quintana Roo is where the Caribbean Sea meets powdery white sand and lush tropical greenery. It's a typical Caribbean beach with fine, light-colored sand that's pleasant to walk on barefoot and crystal-clear water in a rich turquoise hue. The shoreline here is gently sloping with a comfortable entry into the water — making the beach suitable for swimming with both children and adults.

Just a few decades ago, Cozumel was a quiet fishing island known only to locals and the occasional traveler. Everything changed in the 1960s when Jacques Cousteau showcased the island's stunning coral reefs in his documentary series. Climate and weather on Cozumel
One of Cozumel's main advantages for beach vacations is its consistently warm climate year-round. The average air temperature is around 26°C, and even during the coolest months (January–February), the thermometer rarely drops below 24°C. August is the hottest month, when temperatures can reach 32–35°C.
Water temperature in Cozumel rarely drops below 25°C thanks to the tropical climate and warm Caribbean Sea currents. In the summer months, the water warms up to 28–29°C — ideal conditions for swimming without a wetsuit. The optimal time to visit is considered to be the period from December to April: low humidity, minimal rainfall, and comfortable temperatures make these months the high season on the island.
Marine life and water activities
Cozumel is located on the Mesoamerican Reef System — the second-largest barrier reef in the world. It is the coral reefs that create the crystal-clear water and incredible biodiversity here. Water clarity on the west coast beaches reaches 30–60 meters of visibility — one of the best indicators in the Caribbean basin.
The fauna of Cozumel's coral reefs includes zoanthids, sea anemones, sponges, crustaceans, mollusks, echinoderms, and numerous varieties of Caribbean fish. While snorkeling near the shore, you can spot seahorses, eagle rays, and green sea turtles. This ensures a more private atmosphere and comfortable relaxation even on peak days.
