Avenida Atlântica in Balneário Camboriú — Online Webcam
Avenida Atlântica — The Main Artery of Balneário Camboriú
Avenida Atlântica is not just a street — it's an entire world stretched along the coast of Santa Catarina state. This is where the life of the city is concentrated: tourists sunbathe on the pedestrian zone, locals go for morning jogs, and in the evening the waterfront turns into a continuous stream of people heading to restaurants and bars. The length of this thoroughfare is 7–7.5 kilometers along the ocean shore, making it one of the longest urban waterfronts in Brazil.
The pedestrian zone is paved with Portuguese black-and-white tiles with a wavy pattern — the so-called calçada portuguesa. This pattern has become a hallmark of Brazilian coastal cities: the stone waves symbolize the proximity of the ocean and reference the country's colonial heritage. Walking on this tiling, you can hear the sound of the surf and feel the salty breeze — Avenida Atlântica doesn't separate the city from the beach, it connects them into a single space.
From Fishing Colony to Brazilian Dubai
The history of Balneário Camboriú began modestly. In the mid-19th century, settlers from the Azores founded a quiet fishing colony here. For a long time it was a backwater settlement where life was dictated by the tides. But in recent decades the city has experienced a real construction boom that completely transformed its appearance.
Today Balneário Camboriú is known as the "Brazilian Dubai" — a nickname the city earned for its extraordinary concentration of super-tall residential skyscrapers on the oceanfront. Dozens of towers over 200 meters high line up along Avenida Atlântica, creating a skyline uncharacteristic of Brazil's provincial towns. It is one of the few cities outside the major metropolises where architecture of this scale dominates the coastal landscape.
Skyscrapers on the Oceanfront
The dominant feature of Avenida Atlântica is One Tower, a skyscraper 290 meters tall. In December 2022 it became the tallest building in Brazil and the second tallest in all of South America. The tower is visible from any point on the waterfront and serves as a landmark for tourists. Its facade reflects sunlight, and the evening illumination turns the building into a giant beacon.
Besides One Tower, dozens of other high-rises tower along the beach — many of them premium-class residential complexes with panoramic apartments on the upper floors. The architectural appearance of the waterfront is constantly changing: construction cranes are as much a part of the landscape as palm trees and waves. This contrast between nature and ultra-modern development creates a unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else in Brazil.
Waterfront Infrastructure
Avenida Atlântica is a continuous line of dining and entertainment. Along the waterfront stretch 7 km of restaurants, bars, and cafés with ocean views. Here you can find everything: from street stalls with shrimp skewers to fine dining restaurants serving Brazilian steaks and seafood. Shopping kiosks offer souvenirs, beach supplies, and local sweets.
The beach features courts for beach soccer, volleyball, and bowls — a lawn game popular among locals. In the evenings these courts fill with sports enthusiasts, while spectators watch the matches from the waterfront. Showers and changing rooms are installed along the entire Avenida Atlântica, and lifeguard stations operate — the infrastructure is thought out to the smallest detail.
The Cable Car and Unipraias Park
On the southern edge of the city center, where the Camboriú River flows into the ocean, the Teleférico cable car is located. It runs from the central beach up to Unipraias Park, offering a panoramic view of all Balneário Camboriú and its surroundings. A ride on the cable car is a must-do for tourists: in just a few minutes the cabin gains altitude, and the city with its skyscrapers and beaches appears right before your eyes.
Unipraias Park is not just an observation deck but a full entertainment complex with museums, an amphitheater, and trails through the Atlantic Forest. The combination of the urban landscape with untouched nature creates an unexpected contrast: literally a few hundred meters from the high-rise towers, wild vegetation begins with monkeys and exotic birds.
Climate and Best Time to Visit
The climate of Balneário Camboriú is humid subtropical (Cfa) with an average annual temperature of 20.1°C. Summer (December–March) is warm and humid with average air temperatures of 24–25°C, while ocean water temperature in peak months reaches 27°C. These are ideal conditions for swimming and beach recreation.
Winter (June–August) is mild, with daytime temperatures around 15–18°C, but the ocean cools to 16–18°C. Even in the winter months the waterfront doesn't empty out: tourists come here for the architecture, restaurants, and walks. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, but the summer months are considered the wettest — short tropical downpours usually end within half an hour, after which the sun returns.
How to Get to Avenida Atlântica
Balneário Camboriú is located 80 km north of the state capital Florianópolis. The nearest international airport is Navegantes, 30 km from the city. You can also fly into Florianópolis and get there by bus or rental car via the BR-101 highway.
Avenida Atlântica runs through the entire city parallel to the shoreline, so you can access it from any perpendicular street. The central part of the waterfront, where the webcam is located, is at the intersection with Avenida Central — this is the busiest area with the highest concentration of cafés and shops. Street parking is paid, but there are many underground parking garages in neighboring buildings.
What You Can See on the Camera
The online camera is installed at the intersection of Avenida Atlântica and Avenida Central — right in the heart of resort life. In the foreground — a zebra crossing, street signs with street names, traffic lights, and an advertising board with a QR code for helicopter tours. Pedestrians cross the road, and cars drive along the street in both directions.
In the background, a view opens onto a sandy beach with people, warm sea, palm trees, and green trees. Along the waterfront, shopping kiosks and restaurants with summer terraces are visible. The scene is lively, typical of a Brazilian coastal city: someone is rushing to the beach, someone is strolling leisurely with coconut water, children are running toward the water. The webcam in real time conveys the atmosphere of this place — you can observe the rhythm of life on Avenida Atlântica without leaving home.
