Solebad Werne Outdoor Pool in Werne — Live Webcam
From Salt Well to Modern Bathing Complex
The live webcam shows the Solebad Werne outdoor swimming pool — a facility whose history began not with an architectural project, but with an industrial accident. In 1872/1873, during coal exploration drilling near Werne, a salt well — Solequelle — was discovered. This find transformed the fate of the small town on the Lippe River: instead of coal mines, bathhouses appeared here. Already in 1874, the first thermal bath opened, and Werne began its transformation into a regional spa resort.
More than a century and a half of tradition found its modern embodiment in the spring of 2019, when the new Solebad Werne building opened after nearly three years of construction. The project is positioned as the largest and most modern bathing facility in the region — a Mehrgenerationenbad, meaning a multi-generation pool. Approximately 200,000 people visit the complex annually, making it one of the most popular recreational facilities in the Unna district.
Architecture and Design: Cubic Volumes on the Banks of the Lippe
The Solebad Werne building is not just a pool complex but a notable architectural landmark. The project is executed in the form of clearly distinguishable cubic volumes — klar ablesbare, kubische Baukörper. This geometric rigor creates a contrast with the natural surroundings: the complex stands on the banks of the Lippe River, in close proximity to the historic center of Werne. The panoramic windows and columns visible in the webcam frame are part of this architectural concept, where the interior space visually merges with the exterior.
The total water surface area of the pool is over 2,000 m². This includes both indoor and outdoor areas. The stone cladding and paving visible in the broadcast are chosen in a unified palette with the building's architecture — restrained tones, natural materials, minimal decorative excess.
Outdoor Pool: Seawater Under the Open Sky
The main subject of the webcam is the outdoor pool with seawater. The water comes from a natural salt well — the very same one discovered during 19th-century coal drilling. The salt concentration in the water is about 6% — comparable to some seaside resorts. The saline zone in the pool covers an area of 560 m².
The outdoor pool (Freibad) includes a 50-meter sports pool and a children's pool, as well as an 80-meter water slide with light effects and timing. Several connected pools with blue water of varying depths allow both children and adults to swim. Fountain elements and water jets create an additional visual effect that is clearly visible on the online camera.
Wellness Treatments and Sauna Landscape
Solebad Werne is not just swimming — it is a full-fledged wellness complex. The sauna landscape (Saunalandschaft) occupies 800 m² and includes several saunas with different temperatures and themes: a classic Finnish sauna, a bio-sauna, and other variations. Visitors also have access to massage and body treatments — Massage & Body Treatments.
The combination of salt water, which itself has a therapeutic effect on the skin and respiratory system, with saunas and massage makes this facility a year-round wellness center. Even in winter, the indoor areas of the complex operate, and the salt water is maintained at a comfortable temperature.
Location and Natural Surroundings
Solebad Werne is located at Am Hagen 2, 59368 Werne, approximately 25 km from Dortmund, in the Unna district, North Rhine-Westphalia. The complex is situated on the Lippe River in close proximity to the historic center of Werne. This is a convenient location for both local residents and tourists traveling through the Ruhr region.
The green trees in the background of the broadcast are part of the Lippe riverside zone. The branches in the foreground of the frame create a sense of natural framing, as if the viewer is standing at the edge of a park looking at the pool complex. This combination of urban infrastructure and natural landscape is characteristic of many facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia, where industrial heritage coexists with green recreational areas.
What You Can See on the Camera
The online camera broadcasts the Solebad Werne outdoor pool in real time. The frame shows several connected pools with blue water of varying depths, stone cladding and paving around the pool decks. People in swimsuits swim and relax on loungers under umbrellas. Modern buildings with panoramic windows and columns frame the pool area. In the foreground — tree branches, in the background — the greenery of the Lippe riverside. Stairs with metal handrails lead into the water, fountain elements and water jets enliven the space. In the lower corner of the frame, a decorative fire element is visible — one of the characteristic design accents of the territory. The live webcam allows you to assess the pool's occupancy, weather conditions, and atmosphere of this place at any time.
